Probably because they already have an 'insider' lined-up and are only going through the motions.

It's Thai Nationals only by the look of it. In which case, I may apply then sue for discrimination when they turn me down.

Anybody know a good lawyer.

I can do dat. Gizza job. :o

And
It's Thai Nationals only by the look of it

I can see the sense in both these decisions.

Omitting the expat community greatly reduces the chances of hiring a crook.

Doesn't say that, only that "The successful candidate would need to effectively communicate in both English and Thai", and the embassy does declare itself "an equal opportunities employer and aims to reflect the diversity of British and Thai society". Sounds like an excellent opportunity for a retiring bargirl :o.

That job pays about 10K BHT less than even the lowliest English teaching job, which would be easier to get and you wouldn't need to know Thai, though of course it would help. Why would someone take this fairly demanding job for such little pay? Is there big room for advancement or something.

It pays more than most police officers are paid by the police dept. :o Or public servants.

LOTS of status.

Short hours by Thai standards.

Form a queue at the door.

Try looking for a good reading teacher before the lawyer.

Sure...

The keyword is "Locally Engaged".

Yes, anyone can have the status of "locally engaged".

However, with the salary offered, some people might be more "local" than... others. Or less equal than others.
