Kudos to Chi Chang at Promenada

Had a problem with Samsung Smartphone, which after an overnight update, was blocked by a recurring message advising "IMS service has stopped, Close App"

When you clicked to close it, it reappeared in a few seconds, rendering the phone useless. After unsuccessfully trying different fixes found on Google forums, went to the Samsung Service Centre in Promenada Resort Mall, expecting them to solve it on the spot. Ah, but not so...

Impossible, they said, only a factory reset would cure it, and that of course would mean losing all data, which was obviously unacceptable. Protests, requests to see Management led nowhere. Yes they knew about the problem, but basically they said tough luck, so please go away.

Highly stressed by now, went upstairs to Chi Chang customer service. Told them straight away I had bought the phone elsewhere, but could they help? Sure. A very helpful tech fellow (Khun Tin) appeared and spent over an hour trying everything to fix it. With this infuriating message popping up every few seconds, his patience was amazing. He failed unfortunately, but I'd like to record here how professionally and courteously this was handled, especially since I had not purchased the item with them in the first place.

Kudos to Chi Chang. They deserve to succeed.

I also have only had good service at Chi Chang, irrespective of what I was buying. That Samsung shop is dire, I suggest you go to the proper Samsung service centre on the moat. They are helpful, competent and well worth the hassle of finding parking.

The wife took her mobile to the Promenada Samsung Service Center. They told her that her repair would take 7-10 days and cost 2500 Baht and she waited an hour to get that news. She said no thanks and took it to the Service Center in the city. She waited 30 minutes for the technician at the priority window to finish up with another customer. He then proceeded to work on her mobile and spent close to 90 minutes working on it. So, 2 hours wait and it was done. They only charged her the 200 Baht for the priority service and waived any other fees. No parts needed.

Heading from "The Computer Center"  passing the new KFC, the Samsung Service center is on your left before you hit the market and Chan Puak gate.

Do not be afraid of the factory reset. I still have my S5. Do this yearly. Backup to laptop, reset, replace contact list.

Fone easily twice as fast, all garbage added with "updates" removed.

Only bad side - some apps will not work without an update - GMaps for one, but you only download the latest update, not the 47 that have happened in the past year.

Samsung's back up and restore works quite well. It'll restore nearly all of your data after a reset. Unfortunately, it'll not restore your conversations on your messaging apps like the line app. That has to be done separately.

I've had good service at the Samsung service center by the moat.  One time I bricked my phone. The tech served my right away, plugged my phone into a device and it came to life.
