Construction of new Parliament building may be extended until end of 2019

The Secretariat of the House of Representatives may extend the construction period for the new Parliament building until end of December 2019 after latest inspection of the construction site showed less than half of the work has been completed.

Sorasak Pienvej, secretary-general of the Secretariat of the House of Representatives, led a team of senior administrative officials to inspect the building on the site on Friday (Nov 3).

Sino-Thai Engineering and Construction Plc was hired in 2013 as the contractor for the 12-billion-baht project, which has experienced repeated delays. The new parliament was originally supposed to be completed in November 2015.

Today’s inspection showed the contractor could only accomplish 40.9% of the construction work of the Parliament building, or just 3% progress from the previous inspection.

He said the contractor has already sought extension twice in the past years.

The second extension period for 421 days will end on Feb 9, 2018, he said, adding that this means the contractor still has only 101 days remaining before the second extension expires.

Hmmmm..... Another motive to delay elections?

No, the other way round. No need to finish the building, they will not need it for another five years or more.

I guess someone has the power to shorten this particular time period!

It is beginning to look like a fortress. This new military parliament house will no doubt have helicopter pads and gun emplacements on the roof, a parade ground outside not forgetting an opulent officers mess inside. It will be painted in camo colours with camouflage netting over the high security areas. It will have a barracks close by built on a similar style to the Mandarin Oriental to accommodate visitors such as gf's and bf's, mia nois, friends and relatives, personal financial advisors, assorted sycophants and perhaps even wives and husbands on special occasions.

They are here for the long run......make no mistake. Umpteen 20 year plans were not created for no reason or purpose.
