rooster59
Bangkok apartment block owner tells cops a "police general" conned her out of 2.5 million baht Image: Daily News A 68 year old Bangkok woman who owns apartments in the Ngam Wong Wan area went to Nonthaburi police to say that she had been conned by a call center fraudster claiming to be a police general. Walee Sriklan who owns properties in Soi 14 of the northern Bangkok suburb said that she was called by a man who convinced her she was under investigation for money laundering. He persuaded her to transfer 2.5 million baht into a bank account under the pretext that it was part of the investigation. In a panic she agreed but later realized she had been conned. Armed with phone number and back account evidence she went to the real cops who said they are aware of the names of the person or people operating the accounts and intend to summons them. Banks were also contacted to see if they could seize the assets before they disappeared, reported Daily News. The investigation continues. If the cops know who these people are, why are they sitting on their fat backsides and not arresting them, before they rip off more money, or, as they have now been alerted through this article, decide it is time to leave town with the goodies? It also happens every day in the UK and usually the targets are older people probably as they tend to have more money and are usually less aware of the con.
