Vietnamese woman delivers baby girl at Phitsanulok roadside

By The Nation

A Vietnamese woman delivered her baby girl while waiting for a taxi to take her to a hospital in Phisanulok’s Mueang district on Monday morning.

Local residents gathered to provide moral support as the Vietnamese woman, Dao, 33, had labour pains and an urge to deliver while she was waiting with her husband for a taxi to take her to hospital.

The Prasat Boon Sathan Foundation in Mueang district sent an ambulance to take the mother and baby to the Bangkok Phitsanulok Hospital at 9am, shortly after the birth on Phra Ong Khao Road.

The girl weighs about 2.5 kilograms and doctors said she is healthy.

Chularat Pumthong, 54, who helped wrap up the baby with a towel and called the local foundation, said she was happy to lend a hand.

Chularat said she wanted to take the mother and baby to hospital but feared the mother might be harmed if she did not do it correctly, and so decided to wait for an ambulance instead.
