Video: Banged to rights - CCTV tells the story of late night crash

A Thai driver claimed that he had not collided with a car late at night.

But CCTV posted online by the victim's younger sister told a different story.

And now there are 2 million people who have viewed the 'evidence'.

The footage shows a pick-up emerge from a soi on Saturday at great speed. The driver makes no effort to keep to the left and collides with the side of a black car being driven straight by a woman.

The pick-up ends up in the central barrier while the other car was pictured with severe damage to the left side. The driver of the car was injured.

Poster "Pa'Loy Cool" said that the driver of the black car was her younger sister.

She asked somewhat unnecessarily: "So who is in the wrong then?"

She claimed the other driver was drunk and had refused to take responsibility and had disappeared.

I have to laugh at these drivers of pick ups, cars, and even motorbikes, who have an accident, and then run like hell.  Don't these idiots realize the truck/car/bike registration gives the cops all the information they need to locate them?  The term "hit & run" has a whole new meaning in Thailand.

It's not 'hit and run' here. It's 'hit and collect your thoughts and get your story together in case the police summon you'.

Hit and run just rolls off the tongue more easily.

they are consistent; they are using the same standards of judgment when they panic and run as they do when they drive

As I see it the driver and the car hit, does not run from any responsibilities. There is just no responsibilities connected to that driver, because they did nothing wrong.
However, it surely stopped somewhere due to the damage on the car. Also maybe too injured to walk back and ask if the moron driver was ok.

You know why they do that? Even if the license plate was in full view and if the police catch up to em, the culprit will just deny and claim his vehicle was stolen or lend to a friend.

Any lies will be told deflect responsibility.

That's the mentality here.

If they didn't hit the car, they would have driven right across the highway and through the median. It didn't look like there was any effort to turn at all.

you're right.

Probably the pickup driver was not lying when he said that he did not hit another car.

He only said what he remembers. Seems he was asleep and did not see the black car. Woke up from the noise and did not know what had happened..
