PHUKET: Flood drains being installed on Nanai Rd in Patong should be complete by the end of the year and bring much relief to the area near the intersection of Soi Banzaan, which is hit with flooding after every heavy downpour in the tourist town.

 

Runoff from the hills at the back of Patong often carried sand that ended up in the previous small drains, Patong Mayor Chalermluck Kebsup explained.

 

“We had to use a truck to suck the sand out of the drains immediately after each time the rain stopped, and every time we did this it caused huge traffic delays along the road,” she said.

Wonderful those on the higher ground. Even more water for us on the lower ground ...

And now the Sand drains into bigger drains. The Problem needs to be solved at origin of the sand, 

not along the way. This will make no difference as it is, after 3 days of rain. It is mind boggling to see how things are done here.

I can forsee a lot of accidents here during the rainy days

people slipping motor cy sliding on the metal covers

Hopefully this will work better than the similarly styled drains installed on Soi 8, which become virtual fountains flooding the road during heavy downpours.

Good job, and on rainy days take anpother route if you are worried about slipping on your

bike on the metal drain covers, simple solution for you.

What was already a challenging road at times is now a tad more challenging to negotiate. In the wet some Thai stunt riders/drivers ride the grids at break neck speed as normal, most people do not meaning that where the grids are it is one lane traffic both ways - Yikes! It is wise not to be in the area of Nanai and Banzann  junction at peak times

 

The new drains installed will become redundant and obsolete within the first few days of heavy rains as the amount of sand and debris brought down to street level will quickly overfill and block them.

 

Is really jaw dropping the money wasted on hair brained schemes which are totally useless instead of fixing the actual problem at root. A bit like the traffic jam problems around Patong which is all down to the fact of the Nutz one way systems that are dumb (until you realize the real reason is just another money making venture) it all then makes perfect sense...
