Security forces killed two suspected insurgents during an attempt to arrest them at a house in Pattani on Wednesday morning.

A joint force comprising police and soldiers laid siege to a house in Ban Cho Bo in Tambon Paen, Sai Buri district, at 3.30am.

At 4.10am, a Muslim man, Madee Doloh, came out to meet the authorities and said he owned the house. He said two men, he knew only as Ma and Sae, were hiding inside.

At 5.30am, the authorities invited an Islamic leader and a community leader to use a megaphone to urge the two men to come out but no one answered.

The authorities said the suspects started firing at 6.30am, prompting the security forces to return fire. Both suspects were killed at the scene.

Every time I hear of these insurgents getting killed off, I think, it is a small start, but a lot

more need to be dispatched before the problem in the south is under control.
