Seven youths attacking rivals at hospital’s emergency ward arrested

Krathumbaen police yesterday (November 6) arrested seven youths two days after they fired several gunshots and stormed into the district hospital and attacked their injured rivals awaiting to be treated at the emergency ward.

 

All the arrested youths, many of them with past criminal records, were escorted under tight security guards to the hospital yesterday for reenactment of their defiant acts amid a hundred of people.

 

The police said they are still hunting six others who are still at large.

It all starts at the nursing college.

Good that the police found and arrested them.

Hopefully the punishment will be appropriate

as a means to make those kind of behavior disappear

Anti-social behavior is getting more prevalent everywhere. Some see it as a decay of the old social orders that held society together. In the West we now have PC that has made a mess of everything, Thailand not sure. But the youths aren't entirely to blame, our system of materialism and greed is what they are taught on TV, job prospects are often poor, suspect not many see the future they envisage but the future they will probably get. Don't want to be an old fart preaching moral responsibility, social equality and family values but that is where its all falling apart.

Rancid you mentioned materialism as a big contributor. I might add that youngsters today will not work for what they want (iphones, etc) they prefer parents or society to provide. Whereas their parents and grandparents worked long hard hours and never even had the option because these modern day conveniences were not around in those days. Lazy good for nothing, chip on their shoulders, the world owes me a living brigade is rampant and I really do not know where this is going to end up. Society going down the pan !

Sadly, the truth is closer to home, as Thailand is most definitely a patriarchal society. The home is totally dominated by the male species with boys allowed to do whatever they like without any obvious parameters. An examination of a Thai home demonstrates that boys do very little, if anything, to assist in the management or maintenance of the home.

 

They cry they are picked-up, they scream they are cuddled they display an unnecessary tantrum they immediately get whatever it is they want. Because there are no behavioural parameters and even less disciplinary action taken, they grow to believe that they are ‘entitled’ to everything and can do anything without punishment.

 

They therefore rarely mature, remaining that spoilt little boy in the bigger body, with little if any rational thoughts or ideas. Instead they maintain the childish belief, I want I get. Blaming society, the schools or the police is ludicrous; the basic concepts of maturity – self discipline, responsibility, respect and knowing right from wrong - starts at home, unfortunately, that is where it doesn’t occur!

 

Perhaps the answer is to fine the parents, heavily…

ER violence isn't just a Thai problem, unfortunately; good the crowd abused them, maybe the rest of the gangs will get the message.

Wasn't the police called when these thugs entered the hospital and was it raining so they couldn't come? 

What about a reenactment at the Police Station?

Should punish them too

Shooting in a hospital my goodness

I have a large Thai family in Bangkok and they are all hard workers, their children have been raised to have respect and to work for the money they earn as well.  I have seen the spoiled kids of rich relatives who think highly of them selves, and truly believe that the rich families and their rich children are a lot of the present problem.

You touch upon a sensitive subject. When I grew up in the UK in the 50s mothers were mothers and stayed at home to raise the kids and be there when they came home from school etc. Now, many - most - women also want careers, and who can deny them that. But being a parent is not a part-time job, and all too often these days that is what it has become. Parents no longer have time for proper parenting and family values get left behind. There really is no solution that I can see.

 

Of course, I am talking about the UK, not Thailand, but many of the same things apply. The problem is possibly made worse in Thailand by the fact that kids, males especially, lack parental discipline. Whether that is cultural, down to sheer laziness or not actually knowing how to act as a parent and set an example, I don't know.

You do realize that every older generation in history has said the same thing about the younger generation, yet we manage to soldier on and actually advance.

Hardly.  Of course you have rich spoiled brats, but I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that the children of the wealthy are more well mannered, hard working and close to their families than other socioeconomic groups.  If you want to point to the main cause of the problem, look at family structures.  Kids without both a mom and a dad, regardless of socioeconomics, have it tough.  50 years ago there was a report on the "negro family" by a well known senator in the US who lamented that 25% of black kids were born to single mothers.  that figure is now 75%.  I'd be interested to know the figures for Thailand (rural and urban).  

Wow I did not know that the black American women and men were not marrying anymore.  75 percent!

  Not sure where you got that information, but blacks in America have nothing to do with Thailand.

Yes things have changed and we are being educated to believe and participate in rampant consumerism, this is clearly unsustainable and an increase in violence may well be a symptom. Of course somewhat ironic in Buddhist country.

The point is that the trend in America is seen in most other countries (and among other races) as well, it's just particularly pronounced in the black american community.  Given that divorce in Thailand was basically unheard of in 1950 and now around 10% I'd suspect the trend to be found here as well.
