Songklod under ‘scrutiny’ over new political party plan

Maj Gen Songklod Thiprat, a founder of the Volunteers for Thai Nation’s Power which is seen as a bid to form a new political party to support the junta, is subject to scrutiny by the Defence Ministry, an informed source said on Wednesday.

The source he would also be invited to the ministry for inquiries including his intention to form the party and the facts regarding his connection to the junta.

 

The issue emerged earlier this week after some photos were seen of the officer setting up his organisation’s branches in several provinces. 

 

PM Prayut Chan-o-cha denied knowing him.

 

Songklod has rejected speculation that he was setting up a political party to support the junta ahead of the coming national election. He said he had not yet registered the party with the Election Commission.

 

He said he had been focused on “volunteering” to boost what he called “Thai Nation’s Power” – the party that he had said he was planning to set up in June. 

 

He conceded that he was part of the National Council for Peace and Order, having worked for the council under its committee for reform. 

 

He retired from the Defence Ministry as a staff judge advocate in 2016. 

 

He had worked as a chief of staff at the ministry’s permanent secretary office, and at the Internal Security Command Office.

Ah, so they know each other well.

so worked in  the NCPO but never met prayut, hmmmm have i stepped in something ????

You mean like Suradat and her flowers that was PTP.. can't recall her getting into trouble.

That still may be so.

 

How delightful if the party is an expression of his faction within the junta .....and the thieves are starting to fall out among themselves.

Prawit said he wanted to emphasise that such an activity could not be held. He would send officers to talk to Sudarat about appropriateness while urging other politicians to refrain from similar activities."

 

Do you think he'll say something to Songklod?

This is just minor just some words, the poster i replied to was talking about throwing the book at someone. That is far more then a verbal warning not to do something again. Throwing the book at someone is going to the limits of the law to punish someone, i believe that is a lot more as a verbal warning.

 

Songklod might not get a verbal warning.. but IMHO what happened with Suradat was als nothing consequence and certainly not throwing the book at someone and if you call a verbal warning getting into trouble.....

Agreed, there's a big difference between throwing the book and a verbal warning but you can't deny that Songklod is receiving special treatment.

Your probably right, besides its his right to set up a party anyone (Thai) can do that.

If you mean by special treatment that he does not get a verbal warning then yes, and his actions go further then those of Suradat. But I doubt he is actively supported. I feel they should lift up the ban ASAP. Let people vote and then we will see its just business like usual with those in power arrogant and corrupt, just like all the previous governments. (junta included)

More than a little difference urging people to plant marigolds in honour of the late King and the setting up of a new political party isn't there?

Agreed his actions go further but you can't deny that hers were political too. (and in bad taste to use the demise of someone to promote yourself)

I'd to talk about the recent events but it would be unwise I think so will leave it at that.
