Thailand, Korea hold seminar to promote broadcasting exchange

BANGKOK, 10 November 2017 (NNT) – Representatives from Thailand and the Republic of Korea have participated in a seminar aimed at enhancing broadcast quality and strengthening broadcast cooperation.

The 2017 Seminar on Broadcasting Exchange between Thailand and Korea was organized on Thursday in Bangkok by the Foundation for Broadcast Culture under the aegis of the MBC television network of South Korea. It was the first time for the event to take place in Thailand after similar arrangements had been held since 2012 in other Southeast Asian nations, such as Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia and Indonesia.

During the event, Director of the Foundation for Broadcast Culture Kim Kwang Dong stated that not only is Korean culture popular among Thais but Thai culture is attracting more attention from Koreans as well. He claimed as many as 1.4 million people from South Korea traveled to Thailand last year and, in turn, they have become more familiar with the country. He voiced his belief that the cultural exchange between the two nations will grow further, thanks to today’s rapid transmission of information and the popularity of Korean TV series.

Mr Thawatchai Jittrapanun, a member of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) of Thailand, pointed out that this seminar was an opportunity for both Thailand and Korea to jointly seek out new approaches to adjusting their broadcast industries in accordance with the ever-changing technological trend.

Among those participating in the seminar to exchange broadcast cultures were representatives of several Thai and Korean public and private agencies. On Thailand’s side, attendants included officials from the NBTC, the Center for Korean Studies at Ramkhamhaeng University and various TV stations.

And also for Korean broadcasters to learn the extensive, ambiguous self-censorship rules and defamation laws vigorously enforced by the Prayut government.
