Man with "police connections" keeps the press out during Pattaya bar raid

Channel 7 TV news reported that the press were kept at arm's length during a raid at a Walking Street bar.

 

The lights were turned on at the property on Soi 16 as urine tests were carried out on tourists and staff.

 

But questions were hurled at a man outside who claimed to have connections to a senior policeman and didn't want the reporters inside.

 

Reporters wondered if there was something going on they did not want them to see.

 

Nothing illegal was found in the Crime Suppression Division and local police raid but the owner was found not to have a license to operate.

I feel sorry for the police, they're damned if they do and damned if they

don't, their reputation and creditably is been tarnished from countless

cases where they were found to be less than forthcoming with thier

actions to up held the law that no one will believe or trust them no more...

 

I'm sure it would make great TV news to see people peeing in bottles! The real story is that the bar was open without a licence. Was it closed down? For 30,60,90 days or permanently? I don't see that in the article. 

Rarely make it to WS when in Pattaya.

Seems like the music bar at the corner of Soi 16 and WS has been demolished and a new place built?

What is so funny about that ?

A bar got raided , reporters were not allowed inside and the bar was found not to have a license and no drugs were found .

    Of course the TV mob think that there has been a cover -up, bribes have been paid and all the rest.

    If course they have no evidence of this, its just what they think probably happened

Did you miss the part of your quote that says the bar DID NOT have a license to operate? Do you realize that, that is illegal???

Yes, it was quite clear that the report meant that no illegal substances were found inside and no underage people .

   Nothing illegal was found in the raid (drugs) , although the bar didnt have a licence, which is indeed illegal . 

   Can some people really not understand the article , or do they deliberately look for discrepancies ?

 

If they were paying their monthly contributions, then they would have been given a call before warning them of the "surprise" raid.

 

Just another pointless exercise.

Administrative issue, they were renting the right to operate and were slightly overdue on the rent.  Nothing illegal, just administrative

That's what cracks me up about this. Some guy who says he knows a police man can deny entry to other people..., and they basically accept it. Amazing.

How do you know that he wasnt part of the Police ?

Maybe his job was to stop anyone from entering or leaving ?

a police officer doesn't have to claim police connections in the first place.

He might if he were an off duty police officer working as security at a second job.

He may have been plain clothes police or part of the drug testing squad and been assigned by the Police not to allow anyone in or out .

    This story is all about reporters not being allowed in , otherwise it would be a non story .

The reporters needed to write something , and themselves not being allowed in IS the newstory

Asking the other way round:

what gives "reporters" the right to enter a private property during a police raid?

Try this in civilized western country.

 

Here you get so used to being them on site sometimes before the police/paramedics arrive, publishing pictures of victims, personal documents etc. p.p.

 

In Germany these friendly guys would tell the reporters where to stay.

And no doubt , if the reporters were indeed allowed in and took photos of people taking urine tests and published them , the same people would be criticizing the Police for allowing reporters in 

Al Capone ( Prohibition era USA) if he was still alive would love Thailand too :-)

Now, what would really make big news in Thailand is if police ever raided one of these places and the operator/owner DID have a license.  That would deserve front page, above the fold news...

His only mistake being you have to keep some of the booty moving upwards

Press would be out of my place, they like it or not, no rats allowed.

 

 

photos of tourists that went there to enjoy their stay in Thailand being forced to take drug tests while not being allowed to leave would not do wonders attracting tourism. I have been in both police and army raided pubs. army never did urine testing and we're more civil than police. police do drug testing without suspicion, just in hopes some test positive and can be extorted.

Whats the big colored wheel for?

Often after an incident sometime resulting in death the local reporters enter a room and photograph the body.Quite simply they are trespassing and have no right of entry. A condo for instance is private property and the manager should prevent the press access .The problem sometimes is  the press are in cahoots with the local police who receive backhanders if a  photo is published .Recently it was agreed police suspects would not have their pictures plastered all over the media  .That seems to be ignored,
