Wood Table: White Streaks Damage from Heat/Water

Recommended Posts

Hi, do you guys know of any type of polish (Old English perhaps?) that I can buy (and where) for the tiny dining table in my condo?

I'm not sure if it's varnished or brown-painted (it's brown but you can see the wood grains if you look close enough), and now I noticed after lifting the cheap food place mat (which was mildly stuck to the wood when I lifted the place mat off of it) that there are some white streaks. These are not normal "water white spots or circles" which can be wiped off, but some sort of white damage/discoloration to the ultra-thin outer layer of varnish/paint (I think).

So,

1) What chemical/brand can I try (if any)?

2) Where to find it in Bangkok?

Thanks!

It sounds to me as you describe that moisture has managed to get under the varnish and has started to lift it.

A table top should be looked at every year and recoated wirh whatever you have..

I have a table outside and the rain penetrates the clear varnish also.

I would just tey to sand it down lightly get rid of the loose varnish and just re do it.

A new clear stain for example will have better moisture resistance to one that it is 2 yrs old
