Intelligence agency seeks access to databases

By The Nation

The Cabinet on Tuesday approved in principle a law change allowing the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) to access other state agencies’ databases.

Government spokesperson Lt-General Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the agency proposed a new law to allow it access to the databases. This has been approved by the Cabinet and is now pending while it is reviewed by the Council of State before being submitted to the National Legislative Assembly for deliberation.

However, the NIA wished to access the databases ahead of the law’s enactment, Sansern said.

The NIA is interested in accessing 34 databases that are not classified as confidential, Sansern added. He citing some examples, including the database of personal driving licences. These, he said, would be helpful to security authorities in dealing with security or crime cases, and access to such data was available to similar agencies in developed countries

Developed countries have to show cause, or they use to have to do so.

Indeed. But as you say, that's 'developed' countries, not 3rd-world developing-but-backward-just-at-the-moment countries.

Check with Wikileaks and the Russian Embassy.

Might even be for sale on the Dark Net.

'The NIA is interested in accessing 34 databases that are not classified as confidential ...'

That would depend on who's doing the classifying.
