Transferral of Immigration Stamp

Featured Replies

I tried to transfer my immigration stamp from my old passport to my new at Nonthaburi today but was refused. My actual non o visa run out 9 Nov but I have a stamp until Jan. They told me to extend it by the usual way, but I don’t have the funds to do it here, I usually go to Savannakhet. Can I use both passports to leave thailand, using the immigration stamp on the old passport and new passport for Id and new visa?

You can show both passports on departure from the country. They will transfer your entry stamp from the old one to the new one and stamp you out of the country in it.

Then you can apply for a new visa using the new passport.

If all you have is a regular entry on a visa issued outside Thailand, you can handle the transfer of the entry stamp to the new passport as you leave the country. Especially if leaving by land at a border like Mukdahan/Savannakhet, you should allow plenty of extra time to get this done. They will probably direct you to a different room, and you may need to wait for the correct official to make an appearance to complete the process. I suggest you have photocopies of the data pages from both old and new passport, plus the visa and entry stamp from the old passport. As I recall, they are needed. Immigration will usually do those copies for you, but you could be in trouble if their machine is broken.

Thanks for the advice. Didn’t fancy a trip to chaengwattana.

Had no problem at immigration at Suvannakhet, although the immigration officer was bewildered as to why they wouldn’t transfer the stamp at nontaburi, just as I was when I went there. But she was very nice and helpful, unlike the nontaburi staff.
