Crypto Currency Miners

Featured Replies

I had heard they are becoming more prevalent,on websites you visit,

basically someone is loading a script on to your browser and using

it to mine cryptocurrency at your expense, (is that correct).

So I added the app Anti Miner to my Chrome browser, and low and

behold it started blocking them, on a streaming movie site,on one

movie it blocked 6 scripts,1 or 2 on some others, dont know how

serious a problem this is,but someone is making money at my expense.

Interesting.  I know a few years back a couple of software apps were caught-out bundling mining software that installed to run without consent of the user.

So browser scripts seems to be the natural next step.

What's the problem? Websites cost money to run.  Having a program running unobtrusively in the background whilst you're visiting the specific site is, in my opinion, preferable to having advertisements.

The only reason I haven't implemented it for any of my sites is that Google has suggested it may downgrade the ranking of sites that do this.

" preferable to having advertisements.",now it looks like we are going to have both,

adverts we can see on the page, but miners working away without you knowing,is

not acceptable to me,maybe if they were upfront about.

(1) The provider of the most common code does recommend that you provide an opt-out option on your website.

(2) Advertisements steal the bandwidth you pay for.  Miners steal your CPU.  Really don't see a difference, personally.
