Car Tax Renewal - in Advance or in Grace Period

Featured Replies

My car insurance renewal date falls due at the same time as my annual tax renewal.  (I can't be alone in being in this situation, having bought a new car ...?)  I always have problems getting the car tax disc renewed because I can't come up with the hard copy insurance documents in time.  I have been able to get by in the past by getting a faxed copy of the compulsory Govt insurance which my insurer provides - but without that I have in the past had to (unnecessarily) buy that compulsory insurance from the DLT (thereby paying twice).

Is there an easy solution to this recurring problem?  For example, is there a dispensation period after the car tax renewal date while I await receipt of the hard copy comprehensive insurance (which - presumably, mandatorily - includes the complsory Govt insurance cover) coming through the post?

Thanks in advance.

Renew your tax and buy the compulsory government insurance at the same time, before your 1st class insurance expires.

Then tell your insurer you have already paid for the compulsory insurance and they will not include it in your renewal.
