Not a good idea to use glyphosate (RoundUp) if you can avoid it as it is very toxic. It also seems a shame to kill any tree at all, but anyway.

Salt at the base will do it ecologically, but it will also kill anything else with roots in the same area so be careful. It does all rather depend on what you want to put in its place, and when.

You need to cut them down first,as if you poison them, they

will look even more ugly, dead and leafless, and will attract

Termites, so chop them down, pour poison around them and

place a bucket over the stump,so it gets no light and will

definitely not start to grow again.

Some effective solutions above.

One assumes they are your trees of course.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Cut down tree as low to the ground as possible if it's yours  drill a hole to take a small length of 1/2" copper pipe.

Seems to work for me.

Dunno. Cut down to a stump. crisscross the surface with saw grooves and holes, apply Glyphosat liberally, repeat if it shows signs of growing again.

Yep, my understanding was it breaks down fast on ground contact and that's why you have to spray it on the leaves so it gets absorbed.

Not 100% sure though.
