Iran Claims World Has Accepted Its Victory Over US

Featured Replies

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Friday that the war between the United States and Iran should end, adding that the international community had accepted Tehran’s “victory” in the conflict.

Speaking ahead of new US economic sanctions expected next week, Pezeshkian made the remarks in comments reported by Iranian state media. The Iranian President said the world had “approved our victory”, while stating that the United States was “hated”, according to the state-run IRNA news agency.

Pezeshkian Calls for War to End

Pezeshkian argued that the dispute should conclude because, in his view, Iran’s position had been endorsed internationally. The comments were framed as pressure for an end to hostilities between Tehran and Washington.

Trump Signals More Economic Pressure

The remarks come after US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that his administration would launch what he called the “most crushing economic operation ever” against Iran.

The announcement was made while negotiations continue over reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic shipping passage that carries around a fifth of the world’s oil consumption during peacetime. Trump said the operation would involve stopping a range of financial and shipping-related activities linked to Iran.

In a post on Truth Social, he wrote that “oil smuggling, swap lines, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries, front companies” should stop, addressing unspecified recipients of the message. He also described the effort as an “ECONOMIC D-DAY” and said he needed allies to stand with the United States to isolate and defeat what he described as the “Iran threat”.

Strait Of Hormuz Under Strain

The strait has been effectively closed as a result of Iranian counterstrikes and a US naval blockade, according to the article. Iran and Oman share joint jurisdiction over the waterway, but Trump has threatened to change its status and make it US territory during the ongoing talks.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is expected to set out details of the new economic sanctions on Monday. Speaking to CNBC on Thursday, Bessent said the strategy would combine the existing blockade with sanctions, describing it as a “one-two punch”.

He said the administration would impose what he characterised as the toughest sanctions in history and that the approach would “work” in Iran.

Iran Rejects Sanctions Plans

Iranian officials rejected the US measures and criticised the timing and stated rationale. Foreign Affairs Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Thursday that the anticipated penalties were intended to distract from domestic US concerns about the cost of living.

On social media, he referred to the US plan as a “so-called ‘Economic D-Day’” and said it was a diversion from what he described as America’s own crisis, including unprecedented debt and rising interest costs. Araghchi said continuing with “failed policies” would lead to further defeat and to “enmity of Iranians”.

He also said the US approach amounted to “economic terrorism” that threatened the global economy and sovereignty worldwide.

Ya, the Trump big dog needs to tuck his tail and go home. Have a ballroom to build.......

But.........ego boy is going to make noise, how about we set all agreements back to before Trump fiasco, and yes, of course fall back excuse "can't let Iran have a nuclear weapon". O.K. Donald dumb*as*, we are in the same space there as when you let Bibi convince you this was a good idea.

Trump is the dumbest President in the history of the U.S.

The mullahs just got lucky.

Sadly, not only will they stay in power, liklely with greater support for their leadership than on 27 February 2026 ("Me against my brother; my brother and I against YOU"), but they are now likely to get nukes. With the JCPOA, they were out of the nuke business. Now---especially after seeing Trump's sycophantic praise for Kim Jong-un---Iran will be determined to join the nuke world, either getting a nuke directly smuggled by the ISI from Pakistan, or else with the help of their friends in China or Russia.

It is pure domestic political theater and narrative management.

Tehran is facing a severe economic reality, and Pezeshkian is attempting to frame a retreat or ceasefire as a triumph rather than a defeat.

Pezeshkian isn't declaring victory because Iran is winning; he is declaring victory because Tehran desperately needs an exit ramp before the domestic economic floor completely collapses under them!

So the nobody calling himself General Patton's Ghost...can you post his resume, indicating how he came to that degree of expertise? Maybe show his agency badge number or his agency pseudo?

It's cute and MAGA-ish to blame Obama, but the reddit poster displays his abject ignorance by claiming Obama appointees are still in the agency. Obama made 3 appointments to the agency. Obama inherited Gen Hayden, appointed Leon Panetta, and when Panetta left, Gen Petraeus, and when Petraeus was forced to step down, John Brennan.

POTUSs don't even appoint the DDCI, just the DCI.

In case the Ghost hasn't noticed, the 3 DCIs Obama appointed are all gone. I would assume the same is true at DoD.

In the agency---at least until Trump---few officers even know the politics of any other officer or colleague. Only under Trump has there been a test of fealty. SIS officers were asked, under Ratcliffe to answer a few questions:

-Who won the 2020 election?

-Who did you vote for?

-What is your opinion of 6 January 2021?

Answer "incorrectly", and SIS officers were fired, forced to resign, or moved to meaningless positions. US intel production has diminished and foreign liaison services are hesitant to share any intel. Besides, Trump either has "gut feels" (always wrong) or trusts Putin more. The Iran disaster is case in point.

Agreed that it's for domestic purposes. Disagree with your conclusion, which seems more wishful thinking than realistic.

Give him a couple more hours and it will all be Clinton's fault!

Face it, Trump stupidly started a war they lost.

It has massively diminished the USA on the world stage.

No, I think Trump is the end, trust in America is broken, regardless who or what comes next the doubt will always remain.

One thing is certain. Trump has expedited the end of the American empire - the exact opposite of what his fan base expected him to do. It was already well underway, of course, and that's why the 9/11 plan was hatched to try to reverse the decline. But it too only made things worse with all the phony wars and deaths.

To claim the conclusion is mere "wishful thinking" ignores the brutal, objective metrics on the ground.

When an economy's central bank governor admits oil export revenues have effectively crashed to zero, its primary commercial re-export partner (the UAE) freezes all trade and financial clearing, and its inflation exceeds 40%-70% while domestic fuel supply barter chains collapse

I would call it a severe structural crisis.

What would you call it?

Odd that he's declaring victory at a time where no Islamic Republic of Iran oil is getting out of the strait costing 100s of million dollars a day in lost revenue when at the same time it's being reported that around 10 million barrels of oil a day has quietly been escorted out of the strait by US forces.

https://www.axios.com/2026/08/19/hormuz-iran-oil-gulf-trump

  • Under the operation, which has been underway for the last several weeks, 15–20 tankers have entered and exited the strait each night through a southern channel along the coast of Oman.

  • About 10 million barrels of oil a day — roughly half the pre-war volume — are being transported out of the strait and injected into the global energy market, the officials said.

Oh, absolutely, because nothing screams "masterful strategic victory" quite like declaring the war is over, right as your primary $21 billion financial pipeline in Dubai gets severed, inflation runs at a blistering, upwards of 70%%, and Washington pivots to what it literally dubbed an "Economic D-Day".

The logic is seamless: if you just declare that the entire world agrees you won, maybe nobody will notice that the US Navy is treating the Strait of Hormuz like a toll road and your central bank reserves are bleeding out on national television!😄

Ha!

Iran just controls the skies and the seas.

Trump controls the chicken or the beef.

Trump has been discussing a nuclear option.

Winner 😂🤣, criminals claim victory. I see that Trump started something that he should plan 1st, not by bully. Iran government after almost 50 years still execute people by “revolutionary courts” orders. They love to be in war since they can address any problem toward war situation.

Edited by OneManShow

This is absolutely correct the world has realized that Trump and America have been defeated, and that every single objective that America pretended to have has not been achieved. Quite the opposite, America's in a much weaker position now than they were before the start of this ridiculous and disastrous war of choice.

I doubt that, they have China and Bricks as support, I don't think the US would dare stop a Chinese tanker as the bully boys only like to take on defenseless nations ( and even then they lose).

IRGC want world dominance and everyone converted to Islam... for 40+ years they've been building up to it.

Time the Iranians took back their own country from the military and the rest of the Arab nations put their neighbour back in a box.

The U.S. Navy has actively boarded, redirected, or seized Chinese-owned, Chinese-crewed, or Chinese-managed commercial vessels attempting to run crude or dual-use items into or out of Iranian waters.

For instance, interdictions of vessels like the M/V Touska (a container ship fresh off port stops in Zhuhai, China) or "dark fleet" tankers like the M Sophia show that Chinese business operations offer zero immunity against boarding teams.

A civilian container ship flying a Chinese flag (or carrying Chinese cargo) that is simply transiting the open international shipping lanes of the Strait bound for non-Iranian ports (like Dubai, Qatar, or Kuwait) is permitted through—provided it isn't paying illicit transit tolls to Tehran or carrying contraband under sanctions enforcement.

Trump doesn't listen to anybody but himself--ever. That's one of his biggest faults--among many, many--and one of the reasons--among many, many--why he is going down in history as the worst president--twice.

Ohh great so not content with messing with Russia's shadow fleet they now want to tangle with China as well at a time when oil reserves are running low to try and postpone the inevitable price rises ...if China decides to really start restocking its huge reserves then things will really heat up.

There is for certain one person he listened to about starting this stupidly ill conceived war with Iran.
