Contrast with Thailand.

Lucky tree spirits seem to make the news quite often, magic amulets, someone saying something bad online about someone, lottery predicting animals, and similar things also feature strongly.

If we didn't know better, it would be easy to take away from this that Thai people have the mentality and behaviour of young children.

yes.....??????   confused about the timeline.  bus

is on fire with 15 victims aboard but fire department

not called until after the police captain arrives?

1.  the van violently hit his rear end and burst into flames.

2.  Pol Captain ... said he was alerted to the accident at 3am.

3.  He called for a fire engine when he found the fire still raging when he arrived at the scene.....

Don't believe every thing you read in Thai news reports

Maybe nobody at the scene had the brains to call for the fire brigade, not my problem - all dead anyway - so why worry.

i'm wondering whether anyone at the scene

was bright enough to call the fire brigade,

or did they not want to take responsibility?

was no call placed until police captain wakes

up, has a smoke, has breakfast, gets dressed,

stops for donuts, drives to scene......

Yes Falangs never make accidents.

I hate the word falang. Its a racist word created by a racist culture. And foreigner is only slightly more acceptable. I prefer the description "Not-Thai". I'm Not Thai. Can you please find us an example where a Not-Thai living in Thailand killed 15 people by reckless driving?

Fourteen killed as van bursts into flames after crash in Sing Buri

Officials examine the wreckage of a van that burst into flames following a crash in Sing Buri province early yesterday. The incident killed a Thai driver and all 13 Myanmar nationals.

THIRTEEN MYANMAR workers and a Thai driver were killed when a chartered van burst into flames after it crashed into the rear of a truck in Sing Buri early yesterday.

The bus was taking the workers from Tak back to Mahachai, police said.

The victims’ bodies were taken to Bangkok’s Police General Hospital for identification.

So far, only Thai driver Pathompan Panpol, 46, has been identified. Police suspect he fell asleep behind the wheel, causing the collision.

A forensic police inspection found no trace of braking at the scene.

The van’s left front wheel collided violently with the truck’s right rear wheel. Police suspect this caused the van’s battery to spark and the resulting flame quickly spread to the van’s petrol tank.

The sudden blaze left no chance for the passengers to escape.

If the impact had occurred at another part of the vehicle there would not have been such extensive damage and the death toll might have been different, a police source said.

Trip to renew visas

The two-year-old van was one of three in a convoy chartered to take documented migrants from Samut Sakhon’s Mahachai district on Wednesday to renew their visas at the border checkpoint in Tak’s Mae Sot district.

They had stayed overnight in Mae Sot and were returning to Mahachai, according to the vans’ owner, Prawit Saenchai.

Prawit said the eight male and five female Myanmar workers onboard were: Tin Sa-ae , Zaw Ung Lin, Waiwai Nywe, Hin Yon, Zaw Kywe Zaw Lae, Ung Tun, Zin Ma Kiang, Min O, Tin Tywe, Ang Ted Fywe, Ko Niang, Tek Ma Wai and Zaw Lin.

Sing Buri superintendent Pol Colonel Thakerngwuth Kittisupakhun said the bodies required identification, although police had a list of the victims’ names and would contact the workers’ relatives in Myanmar to provide DNA samples for confirmation.

Pol Captain Jiradej Duangrassamee of Mueang Sing Buri precinct, said he was alerted to the accident at 3am. The fire was still raging when he arrived at the scene on the Bangkok-bound Asia highway in Tambon Bang Mun and it took 20 minutes to put out the blaze, he said.

The driver of the 10-wheel truck, Sunthorn Fakthong, 56, said he had been driving in the left lane when the van violently hit the truck’s rear and burst into flames. A source said Boonreun Tour Co, a legal provider of migrant worker transport, had kept up good insurance coverage and was now awaiting victim identification before proceeding further.

They needed to assign a "driver watch" to the left front seat passenger and rotate the watch as necessary. Glad my visa run days are over, although I did bail on one van driver who was too reckless for my taste. Bummed a ride into the next town and took a NCA bus into Bangkok.

Seriously, what is with these Thai ghouls?

Is there really any need to line up for a group photo in front of 13 bodies wrapped in sheets?

What is the point

What on earth do they get out of it?

......and these are rescue workers, for God's sake!

Are  Thais really so insecure that they need to photographed on any "newsworthy" occasion, despite the incident?

............... stupid question I suppose.  No dignity for the poor victims nor their families.

Perhaps the silly little general can hang this photo on his wall, like a trophy to his ignorance and lack of compassion.

Oh...  what a nightmarish thing to happen.  I would have hated to been there and hearing the terrified screaming of the doomed people and to hot to get close enough to help... ... I would never be able to sleep again...

My prayers for them all and their families...          Requiescat In Pace

I absolutely agree.  It's a shameful and disgusting photo and shows the complete insensitivity of these people.

The second issue is the amount of vehicles here that catch fire after an accident. I think it is long overdue for the gas conversions on these vehicles to be closely inspected, as they seem to have regular ruptures in collisions, leading to tragic fires and horrible deaths.

Why jump on the gas conversion theme?

bad maintenance and petrol leaks in the motor compartment are very high on the causality list.... and we know about the Thai version of (preventative) maintenance.
