BANGKOK — Like to shop? Want to save the nation or, barring that, ease your tax burden? No Thai partner to handle the complicated stuff? No worries!

While many Thai shoppers have hit the holiday sales for tax-free shopping under the government’s “Shop to Save the Nation” program that ends Sunday, many foreign residents who also pay income tax don’t know they are also eligible – or how to make use of it.

They tax my bank account does that count ?

There's not much good value in shopping centres. Especially on imported products. I saw a black Friday deal for an iPhone 8 - was 33,000 baht now 28,500 Baht. The latter price is the RRP that they sell if for in all the shops anyway. Who falls for that? How is that even legal to advertise like that?

I'll wait to go home at Christmas and get some proper deals on Boxing day and New Year sales.

I buy stuff when I need stuff  - and not to help "save the nation" by buying stuff that I really do NOT need.

I presume, since a number of forum-posters says that one can claim the withheld interest-tax back, if one's income in Thailand is within the income-tax-free allowance...

I spent  over 15,000 baht on Siemens, Bosch home appliances in up to 80% off  warehouse sale, last weekend in Bangna and will pay less 3750 baht less on taxes.

Good deal indeed. Brand new, warranted items for a fraction of regular retail prices.  For example: 32,000 baht Siemens full size oven sold for 12,000 baht .  Vacuum cleaners, blenders, toasters, coffee makers, washing machines, fridges at great prices. My 3 yrs old Siemens washing machine runs great, bough on same yearly event 3 yrs ago.

Great Christmas gifts as well.

I can't imagine any time that I'll need ovens, vacuum cleaners, blenders, toasters, coffee makers, washing machines and fridges all at the same time. Most of that stuff I bought aeons and ago and it still works and I never replace any of those unless I need to. It would be nice if you just happened to move here and required all of them during this sale period.

It ain´t legal, but they do it anyway because nobody cares enough to put a stop to it. have you ever gone in to a Macro store. There you daliy see big price signs, that tells you 77 bath before, now 59. Look under the sign and you will se that the old pricetag was at 59 before.

Not even remotely true! The first 150k of income is tax free but tax on it is deducted at source, if you want it back, file a tax return.

Did you actually read the OP? You need to have an income of more than 150k to get a tax break for your shopping.

If you don't pay tax, you obviously cannot get a tax break. :whistling:

My apologies, no I didn't, I took your comment out of context, I'll go whip myself.

Relax. Don't worry, be happy.

Do you know if Lazada purchases are counted towards the 15k maximum? Thanks
