400 million cubic meters of Ayutthaya floodwater drained off

AYUTTHAYA, 28 November 2017 (NNT) – Authorities in Ayutthaya are draining off some 400 million cubic meters of floodwater so far.

Director of Ayutthaya Provincial Irrigation Project Bowdaeng Takaew has revealed the authorities are now speeding up the water drainage from seven flood retention fields to prepare the area for the upcoming cultivating season from 15 December 2017.

He said some 400 million million cubic meters were already drained off from a total of 1.22 billon cubic meters of floodwater. The irrigation project is managing the flow of water in low-lying areas through water gates to retain some water for farming and prevent water shortages.

Deputy Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Director-General Kobchai Boonyaorana visited Sena district and inspected the drainage which has so far pumped three million cubic meters of floodwater out of the area.
