Robinson Club debuts in Thailand

By The Nation

Robinson Club, a wholly-owned subsidiary of travel brand TUI and its premium club brand, has announced the debut of the first Robinson Club in Thailand, at Khao Lak.

Over the past five years, Robinson Club’s portfolio of high-end holiday resorts has grown, now boasting 25 clubs in 13 countries throughout Europe, Africa and Asia. The brand, originally developed in the German market, has grown quickly and now boasts a number of dedicated international clubs with multilingual staff and facilities to cater perfectly for guests from across the globe.

Operating under a new Vitya Holding Co joint venture between Robinson and the Chakrabandhu family, Robinson Club Khao Lak officially opened on November 1.

The Robinson Club Khao Lak, located on the west coast of Thailand about 85 kilometres from Phuket, is situated amid the unspoilt scenery of the Khao Lak rainforest. The property comprising more than 280,000 square metres, is located directly on the beach, and lies roughly eight kilometres from the city centre of Khao Lak.

The resort boasts 320 rooms in 13 categories ranging from spacious double and family rooms in the main building to suites, pool bungalows and luxury villas, some beachfront with direct access to the 13-kilometre white sandy beach.

Good oh, more proof (were it needed) that the benefits of the countries increasing prosperity is reaching into every corner of society!

I've just been reading some of the posts claiming that is the case in the thread on "The poor are getting poorer"!

The resort they bought is the Pullman Khao Lak, which was one of my favorite places near phuket for a break.

Now we have no place anymore close by to use with our L'Accor membership.

Rich people problems...

GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!             My family name is ROBINSON.............  I must go and join the club............... LOL...........

A "club" is where you go to meet other dumb farangs just like yourself who hate the local culture and want to surround themselves with rich <deleted>. ?

That is what the communist claim: We want everybody be equal (poor), except of course the party leaders. Fact is that since beginning of this century 500 million people could escape poverty into middle class. In my mind this is a gret achievement which should not be detroyed by inhuman "socialists" like Chaves who keeps his people starving, sitting on the biggest oil reserves of the world.

Well, if holding to the view that the sort of "high end" international resorts such as "Robinson's Club" will do nothing to improve the lot of the local working people, and will only benefit the already very wealthy "names" behind it makes.me a communist, then perhaps I am the most unlikely communist on this planet.

My point has nothing to do with socialism, Venezuela or Chavez (who has been dead for some time by the way). My point is that this sort of development provides no benefits for the local people trapped in poverty, and the effort, funding and resources it uses would be better used directed at projects and investments which would allow them to improve their living standards. A very large proportion of the population here need and want access to these opportunities. They are consistently denied them. A denial which will come back and bite those who deny it, on their wealthy bums, very hard indeed. Despite their wealth and connections they are fools if they don't see that.
