US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Tuesday offered his greetings Thailand to commemorate National Day.

In the statement, Tillerson also said the US remembered the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s deep and enduring friendship with the United States.

“We look forward to further nurturing that friendship under the leadership of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn.”

King Bhumibol was born on December 5, so the date is regarded as Thailand’s national day.

Tillerson also noted that next year marks the 200th anniversary of the “flourishing US-Thai relationship that had brought so many benefits over time to our two nations and to the region.

“Additionally, we look forward to Thailand holding elections next year,” the diplomat said.

“As a partner for security, public health and commercial growth, Thailand remains a trusted US friend and ally in Asia,” Tillerson said. “I would like to convey our warmest regards to all the Thai people and wishes for a peaceful and prosperous year to come.”
