What are the current financial requirements, as Jan 2007, for a married European couple ( Dutch ) in respect of applying for a retirement visa.

800K baht in the bank total , or 800K baht per person ??

Clarification would be much appreciated.

Thanks

One 800k deposit gets one retirement extension of stay. The spouse can obtain a normal non immigrant O visa and extend as dependent on the basis of the retirement extension. If both want retirement extensions then each would be required to meet deposit or income amounts.

Many thanks for the reply.

As this is the first application ( new visa ), does the retirement visa applicant get the retirement visa first and then subsequently the spouse applies for non-O on the basis of beinga dependent?

Or can it be done concurrently ?

I assume you are applying for the Retirement visa in you own country.

Therefore the retiree should apply first, as I beleive the process takes several days

to be approved.

Once the retirement visa is approved then the dependant can then apply,

as this will only take 24 hours.

Alternatively you can both apply for Non Immigrant O visas based on the "plan to retire",

this should only take 24 hours at the embassy/consulate.

Then make the final application after you have been in Thailand for the first

2 months. Judging from recent reports the approval in Thailand is a same day job. :o

Provided you have the money in the bank.

You should be able to do it together I believe if you both visit a Consulate to apply for non immigrant visa, then later extend your stays at immigration. I don't believe there is a class to allow tourist visa conversion at immigration as there is for retirement.

Thanks Astral & Lopburi3. The "in country" option is the most applicable and will follow that and provide any feedback if relevant.

Thanks again.
