Deputy PM to discuss election timing with new EC

Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said he would soon discuss the road map to the next election with the new Election Commissioners.

Wissanu said on Thursday that the discussion would take place after the seven new EC commissioners are approved by the National Legislative assembly (NLA).

Under the Election Commission law, the NLA must approve the new members by December 12.

Wissanu said the government cannot order the EC to schedule an election but the Commission has authority to issue regulations for the government to follow.

PM Prayut had earlier promised the next election would be held in November next year.

The seven new EC members are former Interior Ministry executive Pracha Terat, high-ranking communications official Takorn Tanthasit, education institute executives Ruangwit Kadesuwan and Issaree Hansacharoonroj, independent legal consultant Chompan Pongcharoen Sutheerachat, Supreme Court Justice Pakorn Mahannop, and Supreme Court Chief Justice Chatchai Chanpraisri.

The first five members were chosen by a selection committee while the latter two were chosen by the Supreme Court. The previous EC members were required to leave their positions under the new EC organic law.

Wissanu said he has faith the new EC, pointing to their experience and the intensive selection process.

Road Map to the next election ???

Sorry but Thailand 4.0 does not support that map file format....

If the government does not have the power to order the Election Commission to hold an election, then who can?

Are elections held at the whim of the EC, who coincidentally are appointed by the junta?

Ah, suddenly it becomes clear.

B****x. You can do what you like. Stop putting the responsibility on departments that are under your control anyway.

Selection Process Interview:

#1: Are you pro-military, pro-Prayut?

#2: Will you be loyal to #1 answer?

#3: Do you agree that your term of office depends on #1 and #2 answers?

It is all a load of <deleted>. If the lower house is dissolved the EC should hold elections, with no bickering or excuses. You know the bullshit they tried to pull in 2014. The EC should facilitate elections, not trying to engage in politics, they are an instrument nothing more and nothing less. Surely Prayuth only has to invoke article 44 and the wheels are set in motion.
