LT-GENERAL Manas Paorik, the former deputy commander of the 3rd Army Region, has surrendered to police after the Criminal Court issued warrants for his arrest and four other suspects after weapons were reportedly found in Chachoengsao’s Bang Nam Priao district last week. He was later freed on bail.

The other suspects who are still being sought are a former minister who was attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, Jakrapob Penkair, as well as Chaiwat Polpho, Somjet Khongwattana and Jakarin Rungsakwichit.

They are facing charges of possessing weapons, ammunition and explosive materials as well as organising a secret society. The charges are in connection with a total of 18 cases, including the discovery of weapons in 2014 and this year.

Weapons believed to belong to red-shirt leader Wutthipong “Ko Tee” Kachathamakul found in Prathum Thani in March were also involved, deputy national police chief Pol General Srivara Ransibhramanakul said.

There have been unconfirmed reports that Wutthipong was kidnapped and killed earlier this year. Some observers have said they suspected the discovery of weapons in Bang Nam Priao was a ploy by the junta to maintain political restrictions and delay the election.

Many suspects have already been arrested and prosecuted for the earlier discovery of weapons that were believed to be part of the same cache.

Wattana Sapwichian, who turned himself into police, has completed a 20-month jail term for his involvement in a 2014 case. He was not charged this time.

"They are facing charges of possessing weapons, ammunition and explosive materials as well as organising a secret society."

Well yes, he was a senior officer in the army...

Perhaps the real problem is that he wasn't in the right "secret society"?

He obviously didn't belong to the same secret "10 million baht watch club" as the preferred Secret Society.

You sure this is a Thai general? He is not fat.

Grab his passport.

omission

as long as they keep weapons/explosives off the streets I dont care who they arrest, the mentality of some of these people is pathetic, they see nothing wrong with killing innocent others to get what they want. The sooner they are convicted and removed from society the better, doesnt matter their shirt colour, if they promote violence they are terrorists and need incarceration where they cant do anymore damage, removing the real leaders would be even better

He was, after 20 months in prison he slimmed down quite a bit.
