A security deposit of Baht 800,000/400,000, depending on your type of long stay -  retirement/marriage or a combination with your pension/other income, is required for some months to be in a local Thai bank account. I have no issues with this.

What I’d like to know is the history of this seasoning of funds and if these amounts will increase in the future?

Many thanks in advance for your comments.

The amounts required are not likely to increase any time soon. The last time they were adjusted was in 2003 to adjust for the devaluation of the baht in 97/98. The baht is now at about 10 baht less to the dollar than it was then.

The seasoning period will not change either. I think they are satisfied that it is long enough now to discourage people from borrowing money or pooling the money with friends to meet the required amount.
