Can someone please explain the different types of schools/colleges etc and a brief description? Such as government, international blah blah? And what ages they usually teach? And also what regions they're more popular in?

Sorry if this has been asked before but I've been browsing and must of missed it :o

Government schools (private Thai schools probably similar, unless international:)

Pre-primary: Anuban; kindergarten and younger

Elementary or primary: Prathom, grades 1 to 6

Secondary: Matayom, six more grades, equal to 7th to 12th in USA

College: not tertiary, but last three grades of secondary or high school; includes vo-tech, commercial colleges, etc. Not a university

Universities and rajabats: unis

Thanks Blondie

Been reading a few of your replies and posts, very helpful so thanks again

Is there an easy way of understanding the letter/numerical grades? So far I've seen K1, M1, M2, M5, M6, P5, P6 etc

Yours very confused.... :o

Prathom 1 through 6 are P1, P2, to P6. Matayom starts over, M1, M2, to M6. Not sure how anuban counts it. And in some schools, the class year is further subdivided by sections or classes. In one school, M6/1 were the most clever, and M6/9 were the illiterate kids who'd graduate anyway.

In one commercial college where I taught, even though they had finished M3 and transferred, they were called first year and second and third year students, but otherwise equivalent to M4, M5, and M6. Some students had worked before enrolling, so they were older.
