‘Ja New’ petitions for a no-confidence vote

Student activist Siriwit Seritiwat, known as “Ja New”, on Friday submitted a petition to National Legislative Assembly president Pornpetch Wichitcholchai asking for a no-confidence motion against the junta government.

Siriwit said the economy was suffering under the current administration and the country was further at risk because some members of the international community refuse to associate with a military autocracy.

He added that the government never “listened to the people” and often violated basic rights, and that speculation over government corruption was on the rise.

He called for the NLA to hold a no-confidence vote within one month. If it did not, he said, his group, the People’s Start Up, would take action outside parliament.

A representative of an NLA whip received the petition and agreed to forward it for consideration.

Meanwhile, key Pheu Thai figure Chaturon Chaisang attended his third plaintiff testimony at the military court on Friday.

He is charged with sedition and computer crime based on a speech he gave at the Foreign Correspondents Club of Thailand in 2014.

I guess the love for the Junta is diminishing.

"He called for the NLA to hold a no-confidence vote within one month. If it did not, he said, his group, the People’s Start Up, would take action outside parliament."

They'll just do a vote in favour of the Junta. Threatening to protest isn't a wise thing to do even now

As mentioned before not a Juntaist but putting the brakes on political activity I agree with, Demonstrations and counter demonstrations in Thailand can quite easily turn ugly

careful, young man, the ruling elite have absolute power.....

Do you really think putting a lid on Thai society will make the problems go away?

It won't at all mate...agree completely. But the Junta and those it serves are too stupid, uneducated, unworldly, complacent, arrogant and greedy to realise that.

For now yes, the election in almost 1 year. Long enough for things to reach boiling point again, don't get me wrong I want this lot out but if it goes off perfect excuse to delay an election.  What was suggested was 5 months or June

Is he the sandwich protest guy?

Just commenting so I receive a notification when steve100 comments

When they catch up with him Ja New will be Ja Beaten and Disabled.

Got the message through even though he knew this petition will most certainly goes no where and into the bin. Smart way to protest without getting into trouble.

Brave to stand up in these oppressive and suppressive times. Yes, it may be used to postpone the elections (again) but they will do that anyway

You really think there will be an election?

Or at least something that will resemble a free and fair election?

I wish i was that positive...

Yes , I don't think it will be as one sided or unfair as it seems now. Suthep attempted to raise an issue to delay the election with a dubious point of order and was 44ed to be resolved immediately. As a few people can see the Junta have no choice

Too bad for him, some poll said 98.x% were confident in the junta and in Prayut, the remaining % is currently in attitude adjustment and thus he can't "no confidence" anything, clearly. Also, how dare he use a weapon of democrazy against the junta of all things.

They may not be able to wait that long. In 2010 they were offered an election in 3 months. The offer was so offensive to them that they stormed hospitals, burned fuel tankers and shopping malls and attempted to blow up the main power lines into Bangkok. Not much in the way of self control there.

Only not so smart to advertise / threaten that he and his party would take action outside parliament if his petition was ignored.

Now he's set himself up. Perhaps intentionally.

What's encouraging is young people getting more involved and new parties seemingly being formed which hopefully won't fall under the controlling influence of the old clicks.

It was not 3 months, as you perfectly know, it was 7 months (and anyway he never proposed a dissolution date). They would have accepted elections in three months because it would have prevented Abhisit from appointing Prayuth as army chief. But of course, Abhisit was not ready to dissolve the assembly before appointing the new army chief.

“Both sides of Thailand's political divide want to be in power in September, for two critical events: the annual round of promotions in the military – a highly political body in Thailand – and the passing of the country's budget.”

Excellent. Keep 'em coming.

You go Ja New, go.

This country needs more young men and women like him and his friends.

Only way forward.

Unfortunately, the majority of the population struggle to survive daily and that leaves little resources or time to become politically aware or concerned. Almost a hundred years of military cronyism has resulted in generations of brainwashed, lacking any ability to critically analyse a situation and unaware they are being abused, controlled and manipulated by the same factions over and over.

Thailand's situation will not improve until a full democratic system has been in place and able to function, without continual military interference, for at least 30 or more years.

The pot starts to boil....but will the heat continue?

Brave man but I fear it will not be long before he is featured on TV in a corruption of some sort, as Mr little p does not like people who tell the truth, probably out looking for a frame up right now.
