Thailand mulls plan to build own satellite

BANGKOK, 28th December 2017 (NNT) - Thailand is considering a plan to build the country’s own satellites to enable it to pursue its earth exploration and research ambitions. 

Minister of Science and Technology, Suvit Maesincee attended a meeting on Wednesday with executives of all related offices under the ministry’s supervision, during which he provided an update on the issues discussed during this week’s Cabinet Retreat in Sukhothai Province. 

Mr. Suvit said that the Cabinet touched on a mission to implement all government initiatives under the Pracharat policy to inspire children and the country's youth to become more interested in science and technology while helping find capable individuals to prepare Thailand for the 21st century. 

The minister added that the government is particularly keen on pursuing a Big Bang plan, which is a small satellite project for domestic use, comprised of a 100-kilogram satellite for Earth exploration and a research satellite that would weigh between 50 kilograms and 100 kilograms. 

Mr. Suvit said that the budgets for the two units are estimated at 400 million baht and 375 million baht, respectively. 

He went on to say that the government has also been considering the setting up of a National Innovation Biobank to accommodate the integration of three targeted industries: herbal medicine, future medical technology and an industry for the elderly.

A country which can't even build an electric system which works during rain and can't buy new citybuses shouldn't even think of building satellites.

The Bamboo Grapevine has been saying that this project is a go. A top Thai astrologist using his skills and the GT200 has determined that an aircraft carrier would be ideal launch pad for Somchai's satellite.

Are you saying you prefer Thailand to be undeveloped and mostly backwards?

I wonder if Thais will cause as much havoc on the galactic highway as they do on their own. My satellite is bigger than yours, out of my way!

Slap a few solar panels on one of the new subs, blast it into orbit.

- 80% of the country's class rooms lack proper tuition materials;

- half of the so-called "medical centers" dotted around the countryside are little more than poorly equipped first-aid stations;

- the overwhelming majority of motorists have practically zero training;

- a properly functioning certification system to ensure road vehicle maintenance and safety is not in place;

- there are neither enough waste water treatment plants nor professionally managed land fills to handle the kingdom's tremendous amounts of sewage and garbage;

- a huge proportion of Thailand's roads are in a deplorable state;

- power lines are generally a tangled, dangerous mess that causes frequent blackouts, and earthing electrical equipment is almost entirely unknown;

- state employees including teachers and police officers are paid a pittance in salaries (which induces corruption);

- elderly citizens have to make do with $20 worth or less of monthly pension;

- the alleged "universal healthcare" system is flawed through and through and badly financed;

- and etcetera etcetera etcetera

 

But hey, you know what?... Instead of fixing all those important things (and many more) first, let's rather waste over a quarter of a billion baht of public money to "pursue earth exploration and research ambitions."

 

Thailand, a typical Third World country that consistently sets itself all the wrong development priorities.

The Big Bang plan . . . what a good name for the project that is almost bound to go BANG, even before it leaves the ground. In fact, if a Thai satellite ever leaves the ground, bagsy me to be its skipper, 'cos I'll be back before the champers is done.

 

Good to see that the satellite budgets are less than the new radar guns for the traffic cops . . . that puts things into clear perspective.

But I have actually worked with Thai satellite engineers from Gistada in chon bury on serval satellite projects... They are quit smart.... Not all Thais are somchaiy

The sad part about this idea  is that a brave man just completed a marathon run the length of the country because the wastrels in some government departments squander valuable assets on submarines, tanks and other unnecessary toys instead of taking care of the important things like health care/hospitals and the infrastructure and transportation for the masses.
