Fishing near chiang saen

stament

Recommended Posts

There's not much catch and release around here, most fish gets eaten, even the very small ones.

There's two major rivers in the area, the Mae Kok and the Mekong plus many dams and lakes that contain Tilapia and catfish.

Some of the smaller dams and lakes are stocked and have open seasons for a small daily charge but local knowledge would be essential of course.

Not really, maybe ask in the town.

Or drive around until you see someone with a line in.

They buy berley to attract them, it's sold in the markets, no idea what the Thai name is though.

What's berley?

Chumming  is the practice of luring various animals, usually fish such as sharks, by throwing "chum" into the water. Chum is bait consisting of fish parts, bone and blood, which attract fish, particularly sharks owing to their keen sense of smell.

Also known as rubby dubby (West Country and Yorkshire, UK), shirvey or chirvey (Guernsey, Channel Islands),]burley, berley or berleying (Australasia), and bait balls.
