Thai Rath reported this morning that 20 Thais were among more than 1,000 people stranded in Bahrain after problems on tours to the country of Georgia.

The Thais are calling for the authorities to get them on flights back to Bangkok where they hope to sort compensation out later.

One passenger told the Thai media that problems began at Suvarnabhumi where there was a ten hour wait. then the plane was refused landing at Bahrain and diverted to Dubai where the passengers had no visa.

After a ten hour wait protests began in earnest with many nationalities including Georgians angry about the situation. After flying to Bahrain on another flight the protests continued with some refusing to leave the plane until things were sorted out.

In Bahrain there was chaos as hundreds of stranded passengers converged on a small booth with no one giving information or even a drink to the passengers.

A picture was taken at the counter of Gulf Air.

Efforts to contact the tour company in Bangkok resulted in more difficulty as they refused to take responsibility for the mess. Bags were even lost in transit.

Finally a hotel was found for some of the passengers but they were faced with staying in Bahrain for two days.

Now they just want to get back home to Bangkok and forget all about their trip.

Compensation can be sorted out later, they said.
