SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has given an order to open a long-closed border hotline with South Korea at 0630 GMT on Wednesday for talks, an unidentified North Korean official announced in a televised statement.

The talks would aim to establish formal dialogue about sending a North Korean delegation to the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in South Korea next month, the official said.

The statement came a day after South Korea proposed high-level discussions with North Korea following Kim's earlier New Year's address, in which he said he was open to speaking with Seoul.

... and after dialing the "hotline", he gets an answering machine: "Sorry dude, can't come to the phone right now..."

You can understand why Trump has steam coming out of his ears and is tweeting like a lunatic.  Kim and the South Koreans getting on with talks while he just blusters and threatens in his usual manic way.  How much more embarrassing can it get for the American people.

On the contrary, Trump has scared the North Koreans. They are looking for a way out. Give Trump credit for standing up to the bully. The North Koreans do stuff like  this when they are in a corner and  they are running scared.

If the South wants to  go it alone, then they won't protest when the US pulls its troops out of the country, withdraws the favoured trading status and cuts a defacto subsidy of the corrupt South Korean  military industrial complex. South Korea can look elsewhere to dump its products.

And yet today the USA have threatened the North Koreans saying "you must not test any more missiles" and Kim is just laughing his head off.  South Korea is distancing itself from Trump's administration and Kim sees this as an opportunity of further isolate the USA from South Korea.  The Chinese will call the shots over Korea as they always have and Trump is looking more and more like the babbling idiot that he is.

But let's not confuse Trump with the USA in general.  They are still good guys, they just have to dump the Trump and get some sanity back.

Or..being  the  closest target presenting a  significant  number of  potential encumbent US  military  residents SK may   just wish  to  avoid vaporization? Trade  deals etc  don't  count  for  much  if  you  are  dead!
