Indeed.  Ironically though, the self professed anti-whinger and non-whiner brigade wind up whinging and whining loud enough so that when the wind's just right, they can still be heard in Cambodia, and parts of Vietnam in dry season.

I would have gone somewhere else except my Social Security and VA pension are direct deposit to my Thai bank account and the VA pays for my health care in a Thai hospital (FMP) also medications are cheap and I can buy them from the pharmacy myself.  My internet is 200Mbps/100Mbps and the Lotus where I shop has three discount brothels attached that sponsor local farm girls who can attend college and only have to work on weekends and holidays after their homework is done.

I'd go somewhere else if the infrastructure was equivalent and the women readily available for old fellas like myself.  Vietnam has monopoly money, Cambodia has Hun sen, Laos and Burma are still in the Middle ages for so many things.  Muslims scare me and Singapore is too expensive and Chinese people dirty and spit and poop everywhere.  But I'll keep looking.

Ya, I know.  Getting old isin't easy.  When I was young (in my 60's) I'd go to the go go's and party all night.  Now I hit the places that can get me to the hospital quickest in case of a heart attack.  And I only go with the athletic ladies when I know my cardiologist is on duty.   These are the things that keep the older expats in Thailand as the health care is excellent and the ladies are helpful in getting you to the emergency room and taking care of personal hygiene.  Singapore may be cleaner and have less crime but do the ladies of the night take the time to help you up put your socks on and tie your shoes.

Cardiologist said I needed exercise.  Sweat he said and that's a quote.  30 minutes of strenuous exercise every day.  He is a Western educated doctor.  Ever take a stress test?  The doctor prescribed exercise and Viagra.  No cheap imitation stuff.  Straight from the hospital pharmacy.

When I gained a kilo last year he told me to start dating younger women.  He does have a sense of humor (A Thai sense of humor).

Michael Jackson's doctor was Western-educated too, mate. Don't mean a thing.

If you've got a moody ticker, viagra is the last thing you want to be taking.

Why would you say that?  Older men like Playboy's Hugh Hefner and actor Michael Douglas have sung the praises of Viagra, but now scientists say the erectile dysfunction pill is not only good for your sex life — it's good for your heart.  Viagra allows greater blood flow. British Pfizer scientists Peter Dunn and Albert Wood create a drug called sildenafil citrate that they believe will be useful in treating high blood pressure and angina, a chest pain associated with coronary heart disease.Mar 27, 2013   -- Now you know the rest of the story.

Hef was 91 and probably forgot to take his Viagra.  Although I'll go like Hugh any day at 91.  My point was Viagra and sex don't harm your heart and sex is good exercise regardless of what age you are although you seem to want to deny it to us older folks.  Why?

I don't want to deny it to anyone.

Why on earth would I want to do that?

I only suggested that a man with your medical challenges should be less cavalier about using drugs that many experts warn you to steer clear of.

These drugs are safe for healthy hearts, but all men with cardiovascular disease should take special precautions, and some cannot use them under any circumstances. The problem is their effect on arteries. All arteries, not just those in the penis, generate nitric oxide, so any artery can widen in response to Viagra, Levitra, or Cialis, causing blood pressure to drop temporarily by 5-8 mmHg, even in healthy men.

Many experts? No they don't.  My cardiologist and his associates are in agreement that Viagra is not harmful if taken as prescribed to me.  I think given my age and condition and general level of education and motivation I know 100% more about my condition than you do.  Why would you presume to debate with an expert?  Since it's my body and I have the time and inclination I am thoroughly educated on the subject (my condition)  I have forgotten more about what condition my condition is in than you will ever know.  Hef went deaf from too much Viagra, my Momma who you probably knew told me I was going to go blind from doing something I liked when I was much younger.   Ever since I reached puberty people have been telling me in one way or another to keep it in my pants. One of the big reasons me and my other old fart friends stay in Thailand is we don't have to.

Maybe -- but that might not be so much fun for the Thai lady .

Dean Barett wrote a poem about it.  If I remember correctly it was included in the collection of poems titled the go go dancer who stole my Viagra.

Mate, your life, your choice. No need to get upset

I just provided a link to one highly-esteemed source on this subject

You provided a link to a bloody Kenny Rogers song.

I moved to Vietnam a ways back. I hated it and ran back to Thailand as quickly as I could. The people are just too aggressive after the mellow Thais. Also, learning the language was a real struggle as the Vietnamese are not very helpful about it. They are very critical.

On the other hand, very cheap beer and lots of choice. The foreign food was much cheaper and better than in Thailand, but LOS might have caught up by now.

What's better than to be age 70+ and have an expert cardiologist is to be age 70+ and not need a cardiologist.

One of the reasons I have not moved from Thailand is the health infrastructure which is more modern and up to date and efficient than health care in America and Burma and Laos and Cambodia and Vietnam in my experience.  I think it prudent to have a health check including examinations by a cardiologist and blood tests for cholesterol and so on every three months.  I believe that hospital error is the 3rd leading cause of death in the USA so your point about not needing a cardiologist is well taken when I was afraid to go to the hospital in America or other countries.  However living in Thailand and having a cardiologist who knows you for a reasonable (500 baht a visit) cost seems to me a good idea also the nursing staff are pretty and young and laugh and don't hurt your arm when taking blood.

I also had a dream when visiting Vietnam that someone would recognize me as a war monger who was involved in bombing as 75% of the bombing of North Vietnam was flown out of Thailand.  And I feel really bad about hurting all those people who did nothing to me.  If I had to do it over again I would not have gone but at the time I was drafted it was Vietnam or Federal Prison.  Like the General said to the patriots in the Civil War, "do your duty boys, oh and by the way if you run I'll shoot you myself."

I was an American living in Hanoi and I made no secret of it. The Vietnamese did not seem to bear a grudge as they understand soldiers have a duty to perform. They always told me that they have fought with so many different countries that they would hate everyone if they did not forgive. I really respected them for that.

If you have symptoms or cardiac history and are maybe taking cardiac type drugs then it is good to see a cardiologist. If you don't have any of those conditions then there is no need to see a cardiologist as those tests are routine.

My point was at 70 years of age you should go to a good hospital in Thailand and get checked every three months.  Thailand has good hospitals and the cost is reasonable plus most good ones have decent chain restaurants in the hospital so waiting is pleasant. A lady friend of mine had a stroke that could have been prevented if she got regular checkups at her advanced age.  Now she is alive but in la la land as a result.
