Fifteen youths were recaptured while 20 others are still at large and being hunted by a combined force of corrections officials, police and naval personnel after they escaped from a remand home in Songkhla province Sunday afternoon (Jan 14).

The 35 jailbreakers attacked some corrections officials at the remand home which also serves as a training centre located on the Ratchadamnoen Nok Road in Tambon Bo Yang of Muang district and then scaled the wall to escape.

Corrections officials at the remand home later sought help from the local police and naval personnel from the Second Fleet base to launch a manhunt for the escapees. They managed to recapture 15 of them and are still looking for the rest in areas surrounding the remand home which are coastal communities.

"Remand home" I am guessing is what used to be called a reform school in the states.
The PBS article says "A corrections official said they are expected to arrest the rest soon. He said that it was not known why the youths escaped from the remand home and a fact-finding team was set up to find out the motives. He added that security would be set up after the jailbreak."
Several sort of "duh" elements in that statement. Why does anybody want to break out of jail? Why wasn't there security already set up in a home for juvenile criminals?
Just sort of wondering, ya know?

The last time this happened a few years ago. The truth came out that the boys escaped to escape from the alleged constant sexual abuse and alleged abuse by guards. They horrible places and all such places in the west have been closed down these days.  The investigation into the abuse in England, Australia, nz are continuing 20 to 30 years later.

Bless the young boys that got away.
