SAMUT PRAKAN— A Zimbabwean family of eight who has been living at Suvarnabhumi Airport for three months has not yet been moved into a detention center, immigration police said Monday.

Weeks after the family’s plight came to national attention, officials said the family is still living at the airport despite assertions late last month that they would be moved into the Immigration Detention Center in Bangkok’s Suan Phlu area.

Maybe, just maybe living in the airport is the nicer place to be staying than the IDC in Bangkok.

well of course it is but they should be in the IDC and when going to IDC it's not done out of choice obviously.  they are being protected by the UNHCR or they wouldn't be in the airport. they should be deported home IMO

Just a guess that they aren't classed as being inside Thailand, but in-between countries.

No. they are on the Thai side and plans have been made to send them to IDC but it hasn't been done probably as they are being assisted by the UNHCR.  also having kids with them would help. they should just put them on a plane home. next thing you'll have a thousand african families living in the airport. it's a farce

How do you know this?

this might give you a clue, it's in the article

"Phakphumpipat also said that the family is being aided by UNHCR officials. The organization has been aware of the family’s status since at least Nov. 14, when it contacted the Foreign Affairs Ministry about their situation "

oh, the anti immigrant immigrants are at it again. Chuck a pittance in the bank so they can stay in Thailand, and they are gods gift.

So, problem solved, just get the family from Zimbabe to "chuck a pittance" in the bank.

So some way they all got on a plane and were stopped at immigration. So no onward tickets and how much is the amount of baht to clear a family of 8.   ?         Kinda sounds  like they should be sent back home.

I suggest you read the article.

maybe some people here don't just throw a pittance in the bank. don't judge by your own standards. Maybe there is truth in it. They should be sent home. So it's fair on the kids to be living for months on end in an airport. don't you think they are entitled to an education?? don't think it couldn't just open up the doors for others to do it and over run the airport. they are full of shit. there is no war in zimbabwe. they should be sent back at least for the childrens sake before their idiotic parents end up getting them all chucked into IDC. but no, of course, you know all as you are gods gift and no one can have an opinion with out childish attacks. That is all

But we must! We are ALL individuals but I would wager that there are more wannabe British colonialists with an online subscription to the Daily Mail using an 'agent' to get that pesky 1-year retirement extension... since the cheaper marriage extension option went out the door when their latest rental ex-wife.

If there is any vestige of truth in it, why on earth would anyone send them home?

Hold on... it's ZIMBABWE we are talking about here.

Let me seriously consider that possibility for a moment...

OK, considered.

No.

Correct.... but have you been there lately? Read up on the perpetual, deep-seated, TRIBAL rivalries that taint the whole continent? Never mind, just "Send those darkies back to face the music!" eh?

Sent back to that veritable hive of stellar, first-class educational opportunity? Maybe the "idiotic" parents care more for their progeny than your small mind can ever possibly embrace?

Well bugger me... between samran and myself, that's a couple of decent human beings that have called you on your clueless, ignorant but rather disturbing viewpoint on some of YOUR fellow human beings. People that are simply doing whatever they feel necessary to stay alive and help their children get a much better crack at being an active part of a world that, as far as you are concerned, probably has a near-term expiration date close to your last bottle of Chang.

... said the perpetually childless, lonely man?

Give me your email address and I can email you a picture or two of a previously unknown child called Alan Kurdi who drowned on a remote Turkish beach all because his parents were evil manipulators who obviously didn't give a sh!t.
