NONTHABURI, 16th January 2018 (NNT) – The Department of Corrections and the Royal Thai Army’s Ordnance Department are to select 16 inmates for participation in the Ministry of Defense’s “Thai Made” weapons fabrication program.

Department of Corrections Director-General, Pol Col Narach Sawetanant and Head of the Ordnance Department Lt Gen Arwut Aimwong jointly launched the new inmate career training program aimed at benefitting the nation’s defense industry.

The opening ceremony took place at Bang Kwang Central Prison in Nonthaburi province and will see the two offices select inmates to be trained in manufacturing weaponry.

It is hoped that the program will both benefit the Kingdom as well as the inmates themselves by providing them with career opportunities once they complete their sentences.

Pol Col Narach described the new program as a novel take on rehabilitation and behavioral modification. He said that by allowing inmates to make the most of their own know-how and skills, the program can reduce the chances of them returning crime.

The inmates chosen will all be guilty of previous weapons fabrication and will now receive training from experts in the field.

A total 16 individuals will be selected for the program, which will run for 14 days.

Teaching criminals to manufacture ordnance ??

They will all gain useful employment on release due to high demand from the likes of I.S. Etc.

These inmates might get a job offer from the Southern insurgents.

Wouldn't that be the ultimate irony?
