Cuban boxing coach vows to bring more Olympic Games gold medals in 2020

Thailand Boxing Association on Thursday (Jan 18) formally introduced to the Thai media its newly-hired Cuban boxing coach Juan Fontanils who will be in charge of mainly training Thai female boxers for the 2018 GPP Championship tournament, Asian Games in Indonesia this year and the 2020 Olympic Games in Japan.

 

TBA president Pichai Chunhavajira told the media that the TBA had many male and female boxers and, therefore, it was about time that the training should be shaped up and the responsibility to train the boxers should be split up between newcomer Fontanils and the old Cuban coach, Julian Ricardo Gonzales.

 

But, as a matter of fact, Fontanils is not a new face for TBA and the Thai boxers. He used to train Thai boxers who made outstanding performance in previous Olympic Games.  He left Thailand about 16 years ago.
