National reform committee on legal affairs confirms public participation in future drafting of laws

BANGKOK, 19th January 2018 (NNT) – The National Reform Committee in charge of Legal Affairs has confirmed that the people will be encouraged to participate in the future drafting of laws.

King Prajadhipok’s Institute on Thursday organized a special event, which was the second of its kind, to present and open a debate about mechanisms to help people through future laws.

During the debate on the principles and the need for a mechanism to offer legal assistance to the people, Mr. Borwornsak Uwanno, who is the chairman of the national reform committee on legal reform, said that the committee has already sought out the essence of the Constitution and ensured it was added to the legal reform plan.

Mr. Borwornsak stated that one of the key points highlighted in the reform plan has been the introduction of a mechanism to assist the people in becoming more involved in the legislative process.

He added that the committee has asked the King Prajadhipok’s Institute and the Secretariat of the House of Representatives to join the committee in realizing such a plan by learning more about the law drafting process and working with experienced lawyers to ensure quality draft laws.

Mr. Borwornsak went on to say that all processes the committee has suggested have only been intended to help the public play a more significant role and have better access to the legal affairs, as stipulated in the new Constitution.

I see another series of PMs rhetorical questions coming soon.

And of course consulting them takes time...

Aside from any laws relating to unlawful overthrow of the government, violation of human rights and abolishment of constitutions. Might otherwise public discourse might be too contentious.

Whatever happened to the results of the last lot?
