The public has donated to Bt140,000 to a 90-year-old woman who was found living alone in a collapsing house behind a village in Nakhon Ratchasima.

After Wong Sangiamsoongnern’s ordeal was shared on Facebook, Nakhon Ratchasima Red Cross chairwoman Nattiniporn Chantharanothai and other officials visited her on Tuesday morning.

Wong was found living in a one-story house made of old bricks with holes in the walls.

The corrugated-iron roof was rusted and damaged, her bathroom did not have a door, and wooden support poles were decayed and termite infested.

The house, located behind Moo 6 village in Kham Thalesor district’s Tambon Pong Daeng, did not have any furniture apart from an old mattress Wong had used for years.

Nattiniporn gave the old woman Bt4,000 in cash, a bag of necessities, a blanket, kitchen utensils and basic medicines.

The Kham Thalesor district chief also said a bank account had been opened by a distant relative, which had received Bt140,000 in donations.

Some of the money will be used by the Second Army Region and the Nakhon Ratchasima Office of Social Development and Human Security to build a new house.
