Yeah, but the wall's a pretty stupid idea and I'm sure even Trump knows that. It's his throwaway in the negotiations. At least the $25 Billion is. I expect he'd take a lot less to put constraints on chain migration and end the green card lottery which is actual immigration reform though not very comprehensive.

Any that don't get that the Wall is now a symbol, and irrelevant if stupid or whatever hasn't been paying attention. Once Trump lost on Obamacare the wall became his "must have".

The Dems already passed legislation to build it, but not the finance.

Anyway, 25 billion over years is chump change for the US.

If one is born in America then one's place of birth does determine one's country. One is free to acquire other citizenships or permanent residencies but unless you take an active step to relinquish your US citizenship you are forever a US citizen. I think it works pretty much the same for most other countries unless one chooses to emigrate away from them.

Except for the indigenous peoples America is indeed a land of immigrants and the descendants of immigrants. If you are born in America you are a native American no matter your family's ancestry.

Actually, the indigenous people were also immigrants. The only people not immigrants on the planet are those directly descended from the original homo sapiens in an area of Africa and still living in the same place, and even those originals mutated from animals that emigrated from the sea.

In a million years it really won't matter who lived where now.

You mean white men of means? What do you think?

I'm not sure what immigration even looked like back then. Just show up on a boat? If you were born anywhere in the  British Empire back then I guess you'd be a migrant rather than an immigrant.

Just show up on a boat?  Yes or in chains .

Trump is trying to recreate the America of 1776, whites are welcome and anyone else can come to work only but are second class

As you cut off the date in 1790 - 1

your post is meaningless.

I fail to understand what you are trying to prove with it. In the context of immigration today, it is meaningless.

The first USA census was in 1790. It found 3.9m people in the country of which 390k were not born there.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1790_United_States_Census

The chart states before 1790.   950,000 immigrate over a period of 100 years. have children and die.   390,000 immigrants alive in 1790 makes perfect sense.

I'll try to keep my comments  related to those "directly descended from the original homo sapiens in an area of Africa"

The first census was 1790. How would they know how many immigrated the previous 100 years? Where did you get 100 years from? My family immigrated from England to Lynn, Ma in 1631. After 150 years living in New England they were forced to leave when the tax avoidance domestic terrorists took over. Are they included in the immigrated numbers?

If you give me their name, I will try to contact the source I quoted and ask him for you.  My guess is if they immigrated to America then they would be immigrants.
