BANGKOK — A few dozen supporters gathered outside the Defense Ministry to urge embattled junta deputy Prawit Wongsuwan not to resign.

 

A day after Prawit said he might quit over a scandal involving millions of baht worth of luxury watches, about 40 supporters gathered Thursday morning to urge him to stay on. They invited the media to the rally where they held signs with messages such as “Love Uncle Pom,” a reference to his nickname.

Looks like more than 5 people assembling for political purposes. I sure it was only a matter of minutes before the ever-reliable Royal Thai Police, working in cooperation with the even more steadfast and justice-loving Thai army, brought the full force of the law to bear on these miscreants.

Wonder how much they were paid.

Forty people visit Defence Ministry in support of Prawit as thousands sign online petitions for him to leave

One day after watch-scandal-hit Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan said he would step down if people wanted him to, the general has received support from a group of people from the provinces.

 

A group of 40 people supporting Prawit showed up in front of the Defence Ministry on Thursday.

 

The group, said to have come from various provinces including Bangkok, was welcomed by General Rungroj Chamrasromerun, Prawit’s vice minister.

 

Prawit was caught up in work and could not receive the crowd himself, but the deputy PM passed on his thanks to the supporters, Rungroj said.

 

After almost two months of criticism and scandal plaguing Prawit over his possession of a large number of luxury watches, Prawit on Wednesday said he would quit if the people did not want him anymore.

 

Netizens have been conducting polls online to gauge the public’s opinion about whether they wanted Prawit to remain in the Cabinet.

A campaign on change.org has been launched and more than 18,000 people had agreed that Prawit should resign.

 

A Facebook survey by state-funded station Thai PBS found more than 90 per cent of 70,000 respondents wanted Prawit to leave.

Probably also a couple of janitors from the Ministry of Defence and some seccies from the typing pool who didn't mind having the day off in return for 5 minutes holding up a sign.

Clearly, Thaksin has slightly less than 70,000 different Facebook accounts. At least, that'll be what the reliably idiotic junta and their supporters will be telling themselves.

Absolutely ridiculous. This was a rally of 5 plus with direct political agendas at its core.

Obviously as those attending are paid junta shills they won't be getting slapped with charges for protesting near palaces or walking in a political fashion or some other BS contravention the junta cronies dream up.

The signs look like they were all written by the same person.

 

I especially like the guy in the white undershirt, center left of the OP photo.

 

If I was ever in trouble, I'd certainly want him in my corner!!!

Yes, z42, you are right:  this 'protest' or 'display of support' really IS pathetic! Unlike the unmerited disdain heaped by one or two posters here on the brave Friendship Road marchers, who are risking their very liberty to claim back Thailand's lost freedom of speech, this crowd deserve only contempt - for they are risking nothing; they are just pathetic little a...lickers who are helping to oil the wheels of injustice and di... di ... dinosaurship!

Well, if a few dozen turned up, then that seals it...better stay as that sounds like overwhelming support. Probably a bunch of conscripts that were told you are either doing this or going round to a general's house to do 10 hours of gardening.

The guy in the white tee shirt looks as though he wants more money. I won't question whether he's willing or not, but he definitely isn't eager to be there.
