Here follows details of a cheap tablet which I am considering to buy ;

.

I confess to not understanding "in total ...almost" 8*  8-), or "the full extent"**, some of the Spec.s listed :

2M Cache ; up to 1.83 GHz**

IPS**

Question ;

Can it receive 3G through Aircard at USB 2 Port ?

For internet access,- I wish to avoid using Wi-Fi directly ;

Because of internet security breaching concerns.

Spec.s :

Wisebook Tablet Wi-Fi

Model Number: W803T

Embedded OS: Windows 8.1

Versioning /Main Internet Browser: Bing

Online Internet Office Suite: Office 365 Personal

Dimentions: 210.5 x 122.5 x 7.9

CPU: Intel Atom Processor Z3735G 1.33 GHz (2M Cache, up to 1.83 GHz)

Having a low-power ATOM CPU means this thing will be ssssloooowwwww

Available run memory RAM: 1GB ROM

Having only 1GB means slow operation, slower multitasking, constant memory swapping (think physical office desk the size of a clipboard)

Fixed storage memory ROM: SSD 16GB

This memory is just holding the backup OS and boot OS, still a small space.

External storage (included?): Micro SD Card 64GB

Display Type/Technology: IPS

The technology behind how the display gets imaged

Display: 8 HD

Propably 8" with HD resolution

Display Resolution: 1280×800 pixels

WiFi: Wireless 802.11b/g/n

2.4 GHz WiFi

Wireless: Bluetooth 4.0

Connect wireless headphones, keyboard, mouse, modem...

Radio: GPS

GPS location chip. Interesting addition, as this feature is usually only bundled with 3G/4G capable devices.

Sensor Options: G/sensor-Light sensor

Gravity and Ambient Light Sensors (Auto-Dimming/Brightness)

Camera (main): 5MP

Camera (selfie): 2MP

Data Port: USB 2.0

Battery Capacity: 3400 mAh

As the device is running Windows 8.1, the USB 2.0 port is likely capable of hosting an 3G/4G/LTE AirCard once drivers are installed on the device.

Don't think of this device as anything more than a toy.

It might be able to surf the web, but likely to be very slow. Suggest you do a search for reviews to see what others are saying about the device and see if it still meets your needs.

Much thanks RichCor.

Very helpful info.

I did research on the internet for reviews ;

Unfortunately for me, all I could find were in Thai language ; Audio & / or Thai Script

Google-Translate did not render a coherent result.

My plan is to use separate devices for separate tasks.

So, I may buy a few of these.

And,- some PC-Stick clones & some Android Set-top Boxes ;

But,- then I would need to buy a 15", or 17", monitor that I can carry as on-board luggage on air flight.

I notice that Lazada.co.th has a Recho ELE-1701AT 17" Flat Screen LED TV [ Analogue ] with HDMI, & USB, Ports for THB 1,670 ; Vendor is Tesco-Lotus.

Also, I notice there are folks on internet discussing about changing the Operating System [ Windows 8 ] of the Wisebook W803T to Windows 10.

I wonder would it be beneficial to do so.

That Tablet W803T just works fine, even on the Internet. Best for to use with 3G/4G is to use of a WiFi 3G/4G Router, which will give you the ability to use the WiFi Router to more than just one device (depend on Brand and Model: up to 10 connection)! And it didn't need a USB connection to the Tablet, it just connects via WiFi to it.

I use several CSC Tablets, include the W803T, which such WiFi Router (from True) and that works very well.

Hi ArnonK,

I notice that a lot of Thai have bought them.

But, understandably, the spec.s are too low for Falangs. 8-)

I note some intriguing reflections by RichCor above ;

vis.

"Radio : GPS

GPS location chip.

Interesting addition ;

As this feature is usually only bundled with 3G/4G capable devices.

Slight redaction -- by way of formatting mainly -- by Our Man in the Tropics

Yesterday, I went about attending a related computer affair :

Purchase of Android Set-Top Box / Android Mini-PC ;

My plan was to try out 1 initially ;

With view to buying more.

And, dedicated use as computer each only.

However, I learned that no Android Mini-PC can receive 3G, let alone 4G, from Air-Card.

So, I quit the imminent purchase.

However, I was informed that I could tether [ pair ? ] the Android Mini-PC with Pocket Wi-Fi Hub.

And, I was shown one such that has integral rechargeable battery which connects to electrical source by Standard USB Plug on it.

I think that it has other connectors too under its flap.

The one I was looking at was the one that the staff recommended most ;

Some Huwei cousin I seem to recall.

And, so it set me thinking that this method would be better than doing so with a smart-phone.

So, I thought more highly of the suitability for my personal needs of the W803T, & Android Mini-PCs ;

Even though, I still understandably would prefer to have 3G & 4G capability ;

Not least for better security ;

I concerned about vulnerability of Wi-Fi ;

Indeed, very learned friend of mine who is expert on computers did impress upon me some time ago that Wi-Fi connection to internet is vulnerable to hackers.

By the way ;

An interesting comment from the staff was that they "think" Android 4 Mini-PCs can receive 3G, & perhaps 4G.

As I wrote, the simplest way is the use of a WiFi Router on that Tablet, it works fine that way with both 3G and 4G connection using the WiFi connection via the WiFi Router to the Internet. And I use Windows 10 Home on all 3 Tablets I have (1 8" (W803T) and 2 10.1"(AU101)). Th AU101 are had more power: RAM 2GB; SSD 32GB; Screen 10.1" with 1920x1080; all others are the same as on the W803T.

TRUE had in the past some quite good deals for the Lenovo Tablets with internal SIM for to use 3G/4G, but I haven't seen them lately. Unfortunately, most of the Tablets didn't come with SIM Sockets. That was the main reasons I bought the CSC Wisebook AU101. Beside of that, it was very cheap, it just had cost THB 6k incl. Bluetooth Keyboard. I added a 64GB TFCard and that's much enough for what I need the Tablet for.

CSC didn't sell that Tablets right now because of problems with their supplier, but if you like to get one, check out with Kaidee online 2.hdn shop, you could get some from there for about THB 5k! it's: http://www.kaidee.com

I'm in 100% agreement with ArnonK here,

Most of the vulnerabilities are related to 'sharing' the same WiFi connection with other unknown users. And even with the recently announced "KRACK" WiFi vulnerability, where someone close with the right tools can force an unpatched connected WiFi device to drop down and use insecure versions of encryption, they must really want to know what Internet traffic your transferring over WiFi.

Don't be fooled into believing similar exploits or vulnerabilities don't already exist for Mobile Internet connections. Yes, take precautions when conducting sensitive transactions. But for basic web surfing or video streaming, using WiFi is very dependable.

Hi RichCor,

I rush to add that my polymath + polyglot friend did recently recommend Wi-Fi connection too.

But, he did not elaborate much.

Hence, I decided to include personal Wi-Fi network as plausible acceptable compromise for my needs.

Thank u for ur very helpful answer which :

1_

supports my friends more recent advice

2_

supports also his caution rendered prior about "'sharing' the same WiFi connection with other unknown users"

Qs

1_

I wonder would Online Banking be safe were one using personal Wi-Fi network originating from one's own smart-phone or pocket Wi-Fi Hub ?

2_

Returning to the GPS mention in the spec. for the Wisebook W803T ;

Ref.

Radio: GPS

GPS location chip. Interesting addition, as this feature is usually only bundled with 3G/4G capable devices.

I wonder also does this really exist in this tablet ?

1_: Kaidee run on Thai, just use a Right Click and choose to translate to English, which will work just fine., Also, Kaidee is an online Shop 'Service Provider', means that Kaidee gives the user the ability to sell and buy directly by and from the user. If someone likes to buy any product from/via Kaidee, he/she will need to negotiate with the seller the pay terms directly. Personally, I buy only using the direct way: get the address or Meeting Point and time and go there to check and pickup the good I like to buy. So I all times knows that I get what I want. Some of the sellers using Kerry for deliveries, and AFAIK, Kerry works with payments on deliveries too, if their customers allow that.

2_: as TRUE was selling the Lenovo Tablets, they were below THB 10k and included also a SIM with an amount of THB 3+k Bonus, but not as pre-pay.

The obvious solution is to use WiFi.

So if you don't have access to WiFi via a fixed broadband connection, but do have a phone you may be able to create a WiFi hotspot utilizing the phone's mobile data connection.

Or you can get an inexpensive Wingle. I use the Huawei E8372...it can support up to 10 devices.

https://consumer.huawei.com/en/mobile-broadband/e8372/

That WiFi Dongle could be used only with an OTG Cable for to be connected to the Tablet. I use a TRUE WiFi Router (http://www3.truecorp.co.th/truemoveh/product/detail/3208/4G_pocket_WiFi?ln=en) wich don't need to be connected to the Tablet and I could connect a total of max 8 WiFi Devices via the WiFi Router to the Internet at the same time. On 3G up to 21Mbps and 4G up to 150Mbps.

I wouldn't recommend the use of a Dongle because it need to be connected directly to the Tablet and the only solution is using a OTG Cable!

No, it does not. It acts as a free-standing router sharing a mobile data connection via a SIM over WiFi, so you just need to power it. I often plug it into a battery pack, or a AC-USB plug, and even use it in the car.

There is no need to plug it into a PC, tablet or other device.

So, and whats if you're on the move, with no access to the needed power? We're talking about Mobile Device here! As a good mobile device, you should not need another different device to get it working! That include an extra Power Pack, USB to Power adapter or whatsoever!

Glad you understand the concept at least.

Yes, these wingles need power.

Sometimes I plug it into a notebook, USB port in my car, PC, AC outlet-USB adapter or battery pack. All of which I already have.

There are some larger mobile data routers which do have batteries.

If "on the move" I'd obviously use my phone to create a WiFi hotspot.

But it probably doesn't matter as the OP does not wish to use WiFi - I just noticed that on a re-read. So I'd probably get a 3G-capable tablet.

Hi mtls2005,

Firstly, I wish to say thanks for all the above posts by everyone ;

Each is very helpful ;

Even if we are all on a road to discovery about certain technical aspects by being involved in the discussion.

At this stage I am much more accepting of using Wi-Fi ;

But, as advised above how to do so best ;

Well, it appears that I have a choice of how to do this.

I rush to post this reply ahead of re-reading the posts in this thread that arrived today.

Regards,

I use the Tablet on the move for normal work, include Remote, SSH and so on. I also need to use my phone at the same time, which wouldn't possible if I would use it for tethering with the Tablet! Simply the best solution is, if I need to use the W803T, the use of that Pocket WiFi from TRUE because I may need to talk at the exact same time on the phone. On some jobs I must be able, to use different Connection/Networks for to trigger problems, and also be able to connect to the customers LAN too, and that's why I many times have to use at least 2 Tablets and 1 phone at the same time.

The mobile concept simply means: as less as the possible need for the different devices!

It's all about how someone needs to work with such devices.
