What a silly post. Obviously the junta and just about everyone else cares since it's still the most powerful nation on earth. Even you care. If you hadn't you wouldn't have posted.

BTW, your silly post was made possible by using your US made PC OS, and in your PC you probably have a US made processor, or maybe you posted with your US made smart phone etc, etc, etc, etc, etc.

  • If you look at what elections have brought the USA, perhaps a delay is not such a bad idea

Careful, you'll have people believing you're a Junta supporter While the new constitution essentially ends all possibility of democracy., the junta could take note on how Uncle Sam handles spin.

Read what Dunford said and you can see that it is all about having friendly countries in Asia so USA can have military bases in their countries and be close to N.Korea

Already have them!!!

Something like a 16th century news crier shouting: "British subjects encouraged by King Henry's professed love for the young queen as Anne's head drops into the basket."  Henry's next wife, Jane Seymour, didn't fare well either.  Here's hoping democracy in Thailand does better than any of Henry's spouses.

Is he a complete Numpty?

Yes , "Democracy" is Americas greatest goal - except when business and global geo-politics is its greatest goal.

Thailand is a Royal Monarchy. The military is an extension of the Royal Family.  A prime minister is a spokes person. If a prime minister acts otherwise he/she should be cautious and be prepared to flea.

I did not read the article that followed because that is likely just as confusing

Democracy by postponing elections keeping the junta in charge longer? Hardly democracy (if that was your outlook also?)

It's not at all confusing.  Thai lies to Farang, Falang falls for it, money changes hands, everybody happy.  Old story.

Exactly. USA is putting the Thai people last, just as the Junta have, for fear that China will become too friendly.
The thai people are no cowards. If they wanted change it would have happened years ago.
Only idiot farang dribbling off at the mouth seem to know what's best for thailand.

The headline is just political 'spin doctor' talk. It means <deleted>.

No doubt the PM will trumpet this to Thai peoples as a seal of approval and therefore, justification of his 'inaction'.

YES . . Someday Thailand could have elections like America where:

(1) Campaigns last a solid 18 months and . .

(2) Each candidate must raise almost $1 billion from corporations and banks in order to have a snowball's chance in hell of winning and . .

(3) The person with the least votes actually wins because of an out-of-date 18th century system called the "electoral college"

Where  is  the   democracy aspect in  that  assertion? :)

Does the US or anyone besides China really care about Thailand?

In the not too distant future we may find failure by the West to positively engage small SEA and African countries will lead the Chinese to use and exploit these lands to our detriment, in fact it is happening now.

Common misunderstanding of the role of foreign aid provides to what some may unkindly refer to as shit hole countries, is about maintaining the status quo, as well as a little exploitation of their natural resources on the side.

Perhaps an error for the Western countries currently rolling back aid programs.

As much a many of us may dislike America and particularly it's foreign policy as flawed as it maybe, a world led by China is not something to look forward to.

Of course the US needs better leadership to refocus on the bigger picture, yeah more than it's self and the Middle East.

The electoral college system has worked in the USA since its inception and is a good system that would prevent many abuses of power that take place in many countries.  Thailand would be well served to have an identical system and scheduled elections the same as the USA.

Being the U.S.A. and the only country in the world to have the "electoral college system" it must be the best!

Same as "baseball world champions" (when no other country plays in the comp)? And same as Super Bowl winners claiming being "world champions"?  :clap2::burp:

:sorry: could not help that.

Elections don't work in Thailand. Look at the history of vote buying.

It's all just a big waste of time right from the get go!

Leave the general in power for the next 10 years makes good sense. What's the point of having an election and democracy that thais do not understand only to have yet another coup in a few years..?

I think the Americans have been infected by Thai logic - postponing the election date OBVIOUSLY shows a clear commitment to democracy.

At the end of your suggested 10 years nohing will have changed! The people will still not understand and the elite will continue to enrich themselves at the expense of the decent ordinary Thai citizen - is that what you want and truly believe in? :whistling: That is pretty damned sad.

How about spending money on upgrading education of the people (in all ways) but also to help their understanding of this democratic principle 'Government of the people, by the people for the people'?

Unfortunately the truth is that is not likely to happen because the elite and its military would likely never rule Thailand again for their own benefit.

You represent all Thais when you say Thais don’t understand democracy. Then explained why voter turnout since 1990s are more than 60% and comparable and even exceed the largest democracy in the world namely India and Japan. They understand the people mandate to elect their own government; something you still grasping to understand.

we need thai style democracy

And please, define what that is. :whistling:

Unless I missed something, I do not understand.
