GITSDA asked to keep track of floating garbage in the Gulf with its satellite

Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development (GISTDA) has been asked by the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources to keep track of floating garbage in the Gulf with its Sentinel-2 satellite so that officials of the department can deal with it immediately.

 

Satellite images taken on Friday showed that most of the garbage had been washed ashore on Thalu island and on the coasts of Ao Yai, Ao Thien and Ao Mook in Prachuab Khiri Khan.

 

However, the DMCR still needs help from GISTDA to keep track of floating garbage in the Gulf so that it can be dealt with before the garbage was washed ashore which could ruin tourism business and surface coral reefs.

They can't think of using 2 jetski's with a net between them to clean this up?

What complete idiots......

 

Just put a tax on plastic packaging and the problem will be on the way to being solved

Thankfully, with the abandonment of plastic seals on water bottles, and the banning of smoking on 24 beaches, scenes like this will soon be a thing of the past

Walking on the beaches and bobbing around the sea in a boat would achieve the same result, albeit with much less glamorous technology...

 

Presumably the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources has access to a boat, a chart and a tidal atlas?

Rayong yesterday...Appalling !      The same all the way along the Coastline and we would never go back until things get cleaned up...if ever.

 

Complained to the Hotel about it as it is right on their doorstep and told them it will affect their business as everyone we met complained about it, even the Chinese.    Lots of Wai's and 'solly's' but 'not our fault'....nobody said yes we agree it's bad and our Management are putting pressure on Local Authorities to do something about it.   Well; they wouldn't would they as that would be doing the right thing !

Sadly its quite a normal scene   I don't know why the hotel association doesn't club together and buy some beach cleaning machines and hire a team of workers to clean everyday...waiting for the "government"  to take action ..well.

 

P.S  when the seas turns a strange colour  the authorities blame "algae blooms" later in the news it disclosed that the sewage treatment plant is  offline,over capacity or kaput

I think the policy of complaining to the Hotels , particularly in writing on their "feedback" pages and Agoda etc can have some effect.

Many  Hotels have influential Thai partners and they need to learn from tourists stating they may or will not be back till the local environment is improved.

Money , or a lack of money ,  they understand.

Getting  vocal to the Hotels may help ...

Drop a comment on TripAdvisor.... people do read those reviews, or at least I do.

 

on the weekend we were off out for lunch, so we had a look at the new restaurant in town online and ended up giving it a pass.... people will vote with their feet, or be warnwarned anyway

 

and, hotel management often replie to the postings and at times do improve their service... ?

 

???? im of to Krabi for a week shortly, I’ll make sure to find something to complain about.
