I have used the Supaporn carrent many times, they are across the road from Charon Thani car park in Shrichan rd.

PM me if you want the phone number, I am assuming you speak Thai.

Otherwise just grab one from the airport.

Does anyone know what type of insurance they offer and at what cost? I might need to hire a pickup type vehicle for a week later this year and their standard rental cost seems good but have no idea on what cover you normally get in Thailand

I once read the insurance contract for one of the Sri Chan Road (opposite Chaeron Thani) 'cheap' car rental shops. If you damage the car such that they cannot rent it after you return it, you will be charged 1000 baht (as I remember it) for each day the car is in the shop.

The only time I have rented in Khon Kaen, I paid extra for a driver. I never was even asked to sign a piece of paper.

Stay well away from Supaporn.

I used her for about 20 days out of the month, for a few months and then one week she overcharged me 2,000 baht. She was wrong and wouldn't admit to her error - typical Chinese businesswoman.

i found a much better place opposite the Sofitel - 191 car rent - 07 2275466

they give me cars for 700 baht a day - good new cars. the price for those who can't speak Thai or don't bother to haggle is 1500 abht.

They are great, delivering the car to my house at 6 am then taking me home at any time of the night.

How does "they give me cars for 700 baht a day - good new cars. the price for those who can't speak Thai or don't bother to haggle is 1500 abht" translate to great, your basically saying if they can totally rip you off in any way, then they will.

Which is the same when picking up a taxi at the airport, or being "charged" 10 Baht plus for songtheaw fares in Pattaya (or elsewhere...) or accepting the first quoted price when walking into a hotel without any booking etc. Thai business practice (?+!) is to be found in other countries as well where the passing punter is a crop to be harvested, the first price is almost always the starting point of a haggle :o ...

...and yes this applies to the Sofitel in KK where the walk in rate does come down when you push them.

Don't ask - don't get.

Did you know that Thai law makes the company pay 20% tax on the price if it is over 1200 baht?

If you can't haggle down to 1200, there's something wrong.
