‘Gang of sinners’ face complaint for climbing on Ayutthaya temples

The director of the Ayutthaya Historical Park, Sukanya Bua-nerd, filed a police complaint on Monday morning against a group of Thai visitors who climbed on to temple platforms to pose for souvenir photos.
 

The photos, which were posted on social media, were accompanied by hashtags in Thai that translate as “gang of sinners 2018” and “unseen angle because climbing is prohibited”, suggesting that the visitors knew they were breaking the park’s rules. 

 

 

The historic park has implemented new instructions about rules and punishments since the photo was made public and attracted online criticism. 

 

The Ancient Monuments, Antiques, Objects of Art and National Museums Act BE 2504 (1961) states that people committing “abhorrent acts” at historic sites can be punished by as much as one month in jail, a Bt10,000 fine or both.

Indeed, the "Burmese Excuse" is so lame and  "last year".

They obviously knew they were doing the wrong thing, there is a distinct loss of face in the photo!

Thais dont understand Thai culture, do they have a good excuse, maybe they were Christians or Muslim?

Not farangs so just wai to the public will do.

It just shows Thai people have no respect for their own culture 

Let's see..... couple or ill informed back packers with their feet up in a train hurting nothing but people's cultural sensibilities vs. a group of locals knowing full well what they are doing is wrong climbing over and potentially damaging 700+ year old historical and cultural treasures.

 

One causes national outrage, the other 'a complaint'.

I think this issue is overblown, majority of the area is not fenced, and there are no signs saying no climbing or than on walls or where buddha statues are. I believe these kids do not know, they are not suppose to climb. I've been there with group tours, and seen tourist sitting on these platforms to take pictures, guides don't say anything because they don't know its not allowed too! Park needs better signage and training with tour guides.

'Gang of Sinners', good name for a band. The picture looks a bit like an album cover too.

This is clearly just a group of stupid people, likely from somewhere, Up Country, who only respect the allowance their rich parents give them each week. Know what I am saying? Look closely at the clothes and accessories.
