Bangkok's seedy side - where sex with an 83 year old and a young boy is available on the street for 300 baht

Thai Rath reported on a seedy side to the business of paid sex that exists in increasingly large numbers on the streets of the nation's capital.

 

Speaking to an expert on the homeless, they said that in some areas 60% of the prostitutes on the street were "old aged". Children were also available for a few hundred baht.

 

Many of Bangkok's homeless offer sex with some catering to unusual tastes - like people who want to have sex with pregnant women and the mentally deficient.

 

Thai Rath were talking to Atchara Sorawaree from a protection agency for the homeless who came up with some startling statistics.

 

She said that the number of homeless in Bangkok recorded in 2017 was 3,630 people made up of 2,203 men and 1,427 women.

 

This was up 175 from 2016 with the authorities believing economic factors are to blame.

 

People on the streets were classified as permanent vagrants, temporary homeless, alcoholics and those who are mentally ill among other groups.

 

There were even 20 foreigners recorded as part of their number.

 

Areas with the most homeless included Phra Nakorn with 624, Ban Seu 304, Chatujak 252 and Pathumwan with 220.

 

Many people had been on the streets for dozens of years - one who has since died was on the streets for 36 years from the age of 18.

 

Many were abandoned as children and took to the streets, said Atchara, who went on to describe an alarming situation in the inner city area of Rattanakosin Island where sex is for sale from vagrants and the homeless.

 

She said that there are 800 - 1000 people selling sex in the area and 60% are classified as old aged. She said that handing out condoms to the workers had revealed the ages and why many were on the street.

 

The oldest woman was 83 and was still selling sex. The youngest girl was 12.

 

The oldest man selling himself was 46 and the youngest just 8 years old. Charges were 300 - 1000 baht for sex, she said.

 

Some of those selling sex actually had money and were the wives of military men getting 30,000 baht a month from their husbands. She said they did it for comfort after feeling abandoned.

 

While others were even civil servants from the provinces who came to Bangkok to try and get money to pay credit card debt of up to 2 million baht.

 

Customers after bizarre sexual experiences knew that they could have sex with women who were pregnant or those of both sexes who are mentally ill or sick in some other way.

 

Atchara said that it was time that the authorities recognized the situation and set up zoning for such prostitution to help protect those engaging in such activity.

 

She described a situation where many of the homeless without relatives or friends were simply dying on the streets of Bangkok and being cleaned away like trash.

Not to make light of a serious subject, but I am sure I have some 83 year Thai ladies that are my next door neighbors here in my "village" in Hua Hin that would pay me 300 baht. And this is a very conservative place and they have a ton of cash.

How sad! I can´t find any words.

Like so many things these days these "reports" are often exaggerated with the purpose of generating more funding from governments and gullible individuals and organizations. It's always about the money. If there isn't a "crisis" there aren't fat jobs for people supposedly fixing the problems.

Yeah, the other day i was offer an 83 year old woman who was pregnant and also mentally impered for 300 baht, of course i have declined, I don't know where Thairath brings this silly statistics from, and anyone who's been aroundnightlife knows that those numbers are not true...

Well, you cannot buy three submarines and cater to social welfare needs at the same time, can you! 

Not a fan of prostitution but it will never go away so might as well make it safe for the consenting adult participants and ensure that no unwilling and minor aged persons are abused.

Im guessing the area is Chinatown , I knew one chap who enjoyed picking up pregnant women there. I understand though that the scene has diminished a great deal in recent years , certainly 1000+ ' regulars ' seems to be somewhat of an exageration.

I assume these are numbers for the registered homeless , probably grossly understates the true number , much like the unemployment figures.
