Foreign Affairs Minister stresses Thailand's law reform commitment at HRC-37

GENEVA, 1st March 2017 (NNT) – The Foreign Affairs Minister, Don Pramudwinai, attended the 37th Session of the Human Rights Council (HRC-37), elaborating Thailand's legal proceedings and its development goal through legal reforms. 

On Wednesday (February 28th), Mr. Don delivered his remarks before the 37th Session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, regarding legal proceedings in Thailand that the Thai government is executing necessary measures for legal reform which will be a key development factor of the country. 

He said Thailand is working to further develop its universal health security which is currently offering benefits to almost all Thai population, and introduced the welfare card scheme benefiting some 11 million people with low income. 

The Thai government has recently introduced new laws, such as the Corrections Act BE 2560, the Human Trafficking Prevention and Suppression Act BE 2560, and the Labour Protection Act BE 2560. Thailand is also working in the system to verify undocumented refugees to ensure their basic needs will be protected. 

Thailand has also concluded the drafting of the 4th National Human Rights Plan which address new challenges, such as the access to land and resources, the protection of the basic rights of human rights defenders.

 

The country is also in the process of drafting the national operations plan related to business and human rights which will better relate to the private sector in a more inclusive way, all of which to achieve the goal that no one would be left behind.

Interesting to note what he didn't mention, like article 44, article 116 (the sedition law), the public assembly act and section 112 (lese majeste). Rather ironic that this HRC-37 that he attended in Geneva couldn't have taken place in Bangkok.

It is just so insulting - indeed, enraging - that mendacious and conscience-deprived people like this Thai 'representative' have the unmitigated gall and temerity to speak about 'human rights': in one's less liberal moments, one feels that the very presence of such humanity smashers should be blocked, barred and outlawed from any conference that claims to represent human values.

A good start would be to free the hundreds of political prisoners that have been arrested under these laws. 

Words without actions are meaningless. 

This guy just constantly spews Thailand is on the verge of doing great things.   Thailand is always in the process of doing good things, but it rarely gets there and front men like this guy are a dime a dozen in the country.  Speak to them everyday.

One might have expected that the Thailand National Human Rights Commissioner to be the one leading the Thailand mission to this session. But maybe because the TNHRC lost its accreditation and membership in the UNHRC in 2015, the Thai government had to settle with its Foreign Affairs Minister attending. But his attendance would only have been as an observer.

Oxymorons, similes, metaphors . . . it's got the lot, and with " . . . in the process of drafting the national operations plan . . . ", a rhetorical joke, too. He must have got such a buzz from this international panto, whilst the other delegates must have been struggling, to a man, to avoid bursting out laughing.
